Default oil leaking past pre heater threads

hi we have just fitted a new cylinder head to my sons 2.5td ranger as it was blowing white smoke and loosing water . its started fine but is leaking oil past the threads on number 3 glow plug .its putting some blue smoke out the exhaust . if the oil rings are on way out is it possible to put oil past the threads. im talking a bad leak not just a trace of oil. hope to do a compression check tomorrow with a friends compression tester . but not sure if its oil rings only will this show a fault . any help or veiws will be greatly apreciated .been doing my own repairs for the last 35 years on petrol engines (im a v8 man) so not really into diesels .thanks again richard have now found problem it was a small blow hole in the casting so if you buy a cheap cylinder head off the internet £215 be carfull as they say you get what you pay for. a local company quoted £550 for a bare head .
