Hey man the paint job looks good...disregard flippers comment. I dont think you could get any better finish unless you took it to a shop. And dont clear coat the wheels, it ends up looking like crap in a few months. If you leave it flat black, itll only take a few minutes of your time to spray it to like new again.

i like your mods OP,im lookin to do somethin similar to my 94 ranger as its just too..well stock now,and i dont wanna dump alotta $ into my DD(my project civic eats my pay checks like a fat woman at a buffet anyway!),just make it look better on the cheap,i like the black grill the most,i think thatd look great on mine instead of the nasty grey it is now

I don't really want a clear coat on the wheels anyway and you're right it would be so much easier to touch it up if needed.

Out of everything, the grill was the easiest to remove/paint and it really added a lot to the appearance. In the future, I need to get more and touch up a few of the not-so-noticeable places.

The point of everything wasn't to have necissarily shop quality changes, just some inexpensive ways of getting it looking better. I'm happy with how everything has turned out so far, and I'm the one driving it, right?

I took out the air box silencer last night and it does give it a little more of a deeper growl when I rev up without being obnoxious, which I like. Best part was that it was free and took me 2 minutes.

I think I want to bed armor the inside floor next and paint the paneling while im at it. I have talked to someone who had done this to their floors and said its great looking and so easy to clean and keep it that way. At our store we sell the pint cans for $40 so I think I'll pick them up and a roller/brush and just do it that way.

lol, if you clear it properly.... You don't have to touch it up every few months.

Spray paint is always fun

It's been a week or so and the texture has been smoothed out from all of the use, so I like the seats a lot more.

I just started my next project, though I'm not too sure how this is going to go. It will be the most DIY thing I've done so far.

I am going to build my own tonneau cover just so I can put some things in my bed without having to worry about people walking off with them. True, I guess I could just go out and buy one. I'm not really sure how it will turn out, but I'm more of a "trial-and-error" type of guy. I went to home depot and spent about $80 for the bulk of the supplies I will need. I will post plenty of pictures as it progresses. In my head, it seems like it wouldn't be all too difficult, but things tend not to turn out that way

I wanna see pics of this. You think like I do to an extent. But yes, I want to see what kind of cover you can come up with.

And PS. Thanks for the bed-liner bumber/grill idea. You've just given me a new project!

I am extremely happy with how the bumpers and grill turned out. I still need to get a wee bit more and touch up the small parts facing the front wheels, since that was were the bumper was laying when I did it. They have withstood the elements as well, which is great. I was a little worried that it would wear, since it could look good for a week or so and just start chipping. But so far they look as good as the day I did them. I've even scrubbed and washed them a few times.

I've been thinking about the Tonneau for a while now, but I finally have the money and time to do it. Figuring out how to secure it took some creative problem solving but I feel that I'm going to be happy with the results. I plan on starting tonight so I'll be sure to post step by step photos

Awesome, though. Can't wait to see how you do it. I kinda do the Home Depot improvisation stuff too. There's a picture around here somewhere of how I was able to mount a CB antenna with some all-thread and Redneck ingenuity.

Unless you put like thirty coats on it, or have access to some expensive air tools, its hard to get a clear coat to be any more durable than paint. If you go mudding or offroad in your truck at all you probably know what im talking about. In a high use area like rims, the minute a rock grinds up against it its all over. If you use just paint, and you chip some off, just take ten mins to touch up and forget it until next time.

Clear coat is hard to get right in a rattle can, sometimes it doesnt play nice with other paints, and will start to peel etc. especially if you dont get it on in the same window as the paint itself. Clear coat is good for UV protection though...as long as it doesnt start to yellow lol

So I started to make the cover last night. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a big enough sheet of wood from home depot, so I measured out my bed and got it cut into three equal pieces, and used the cut off sections to bolt them all together using galvanized bolts and nuts.

My idea would be to sand down the edges to round them out and make them almost flush with my bed liner.

The one thing I haven't decided on is what to coat it in to make it waterproof. I could use some sort of outdoor coating that I could get from home depot, but I was also thinking that rubberized waterproof sealant topped off with more bed-liner might work as well. My roommate had a few other ideas of stretching vinyl over it or some other covering, though I feel that it might be a bit more complicated than its worth. Right now I'm leaning toward the sealant.

Any ideas?

If it were me, I'd use deck stain, if I wanted to keep the natural look.
If you want black, go with the spray-on bedliner, or your favorite paint.
Heck, you could color-match it!
Just keep in mind that a 4x6 sheet of blackness will get hot enough to cook on in the summer!

I vote bedliner. You can actually get it in red, which I think would look good with your truck.

Very true. I'm not looking to keep the wood grain I was thinking black to match the red/black theme I am going for, but I hadn't thought about red bed liner. That may actaully look really good. I could always take it off for the summer. I just wanted to get it done before the winter weather so I don't end up with a bed full of snow and so the stuff I throw in there won't be affected much by the snow.

I am working today and picking up some caulk to seal up the seams between the boards and some sand paper. I was going to go with some waterproof rubberized sealant to coat it. I'll probably be bed-lining it over top of that for texture and added protection from the elements.

I picked up some anchor points from home depot the other night that I will be using to attach it. I know they don't necessarily lock, but they will do in a pinch and wont be too difficult to remove if needed
