Is this a good deal?
I have a good friend that is selling his 2002 XLT Ranger, extended cab, 4 cyl., 5 speed, with 117,000 miles.
He had it detailed this weekend, a new battery, a new windshield, inspection sticker, and thermostat.
Air blows ice cold, and the clutch is in good condition. The body has the normal wear for an 8 year old truck. Tires are about 10,000 miles old.
I drive about 200 miles a day for work, in a 3/4 ton truck, and was thinking of buying this truck for a semi daily driver, mostly interstate.
Is it worth $4000?
Thanks in advance.

decent price man. Since it's a friend, I'd ask if he'd take lower. But if not, just leave it be. It is still a decent price, but it is a friend and not jo schmo on the other side of town, ya know?

Being the guy is like me, I'm sure he has taken care of the truck.....and the looks and from driving it, I know it's in good shape.
That being said, I think I'll just go ahead and buy it for what he is asking. I have been looking around here for a couple of months, and I have seen some really outrageous prices on "junk".
I thank you folks for the replies, and I am here to learn.

I would call the guy a good friend.
And, I do realize that this IS an 8 year old vehicle.
Honestly, I just don't know a lot about the Ranger pickups, but we have a couple in our company fleet, and they last for 200k plus miles, and the folks that drive them, well, they drive the heck out of them!!!

I am new here and looking for my first Ranger. I am seeing prices, conditions and production years all over the place. I can't spend more than $4000 and will be buying off a car lot most likely - dealers don't carry 'em old enough for my pocket book. What is too old? Can I believe the odometer? For instance I like this one but it scares me a little too!
http://www.thebiglot.com/ad_auto.asp...N=2&AT=1&PL=0&
1992 FORD RANGER FTX For Sale they claim 108k but the photo of the odometer says 67k
Any advice is appreciated. BTW I have not tried my hand at mechanics yet but I am hoping to learn to maintain it myself.

That odometer shows 06739......and 4 tenths....
Probably more like 206, 739.4 miles.....that odometer has definitely been "rolled over" at least once, and probably twice.
