Default Hail Damage should I claim it through insurance?

Hey Guys well we had olive sized hail the other day and while I hoped my truck would get out of it damage free, I have 3 dimples on the hood and three on the roof near the passenger A pillar. Deductible is $300. Lots of cars in my area got hail damaged during the same storm so they are having trouble keeping up with the claims.

Since the truck barely has 8,000 miles (14,000 Kms) on it I would like to get it fixed but i am curious if the rates will go up, or if I will get red flagged for filing a claim.

Any constructive input is welcomed.

Thanks.

***No Pics yet since it's dark out.

about the size of these:

If the truck had some age it wouldnt bother me as much but the truck still has prestine paint and body so it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb.

Id probably get it fixed, but would your rates go up if you turned that into insurance? Or is hail damage one of those things that doesn't. IDK lol all I see when I look at insurance is a ripoff anyways

might just be cheaper to see how much it would cost a body shop to fix it

I got stuck out in golfball sized hail the other day. Luckily I was out on a fire call at the time so the state pays my deductible and the insurance company, by law, cannot raise my rate.

If I hadn't been out on a call though I probably wouldn't have had the dents fixed.

Gusting wind caught a door of a car parked next to my wife's car resulting in a nice dent. Went to a shop that uses tools to push it out and polish the paint - came out perfect, cost $150. IIRC. The responsible party reimbursed her with no issues.

I'd get a quote first - if it's less than your deductible then don't claim of course. I don't think that one claim will raise your rates but i do suspect that multiple claims, even innocent events, will result in higher rates for you.

Rates usually only get impacted if you caused the damage. A claim on comprehensive should not increase your insurance premium.

+1. He stated he had a $300 deductible, so chances are that the damages would be higher and insurance would have to cover the difference, and anytime insurance pays a claim it counts against you because the insurance companies don't like dishing out money.

Are you sure? Who's your company?

Not true. If I were a bad driver and caused wrecks, then my liability would kick-in when the other party files their claim, however, if I had bad luck and got hit by uninsured motorist(s), for instance, my insurance rates potentially would go up if I filed a claim because my company couldn't go after the other party's insurance. The same would hold true if my windshield were smashed, I hit a deer, or my vehicle were stolen. As long as a driver's insurance pays a claim, it is always held against him/her for a time because of the risk involved. This is proven when trying to lower rates with a current company or switching insurance companies. Besides the driver's age, location, type of vehicle to insure, etc., the company also inquires about claims, accidents, and tickets w/in the last 3 - 5 years. That is how the premium is calculated -- by taking everything into account and determining future risk.

Policies can definitely vary, but typically the rule of thumb is that a claim works against a driver of the policy. I can understand that and the risks of insurance companies because potentially the insurance companies are held liable if something happens. What irritates me is when a driver doesn't file a claim but gets a ticket, and it is held against him/her. Why should my rates automatically suffer, for instance, especially when the insurance company didn't have to get involved with a claim?

Insurance companies do have leeway, first time forgiveness, and other incentives here and there (such as how long the policy was in place, etc.) or else driver's would be switching policies frequently because one claim would sky-rocket his/her rates. I know from experience on both sides of the fence -- having my rates rise and having my rates stay the same. Unfortunately, I'm still in the category of needing a clean record for another year because I've seen my rates increase twice in the last two years.

yeah, state farm hasn't 'noticed' my tickets i guess, but if i switched insurance providers, then they would gouge me because of it. i still have about 2 years before the last one (2mph over the speed limit ) is off my record.
