Arrow Why all the stigma towards the 3.0l?

Sorry for this little rant, this has been something that has been bothering me ever since I have joined the forums. The apparent stigma attached with anyone owning a "3.slow" and trying to get a little more out of it. Honestly it really makes me angry when all people can do is say "It's a car engine blah blah blah. Swap, get a F-150 or a car, etc."

I am sorry, but some of us CAN'T afford a engine swap or a new vehicle, so why bash us when we try to have legitimate questions answered about what WE have and not what we "could" have?

I own a 3.0l that was given to me by my father and I am thankful for it. I am currently going through school and I do what little upgrades I can to the truck and I consistently take on 4.0's, though apparently I am not "supposed to be able to" according to nay-sayers on the forums.

Does anyone else have any qualms about this? I think we as a community should really put a stop this bashing and come together as Ranger owners, otherwise all you end up doing is alienating members.

This is exactly what I am talking about. Contributes absolutely nothing to the conversation.

I dont think this is about him having "thicker skin". I read some of another thread that he started and no one on it answered his questions. All they did was bash him for owning a 3.0. Telling him to get a mans motor and what he has already stated. I have no idea why but that is just how some people are I guess. What I think he is trying to say is, why can't people just answer his question instead of making another 3.0 bash thread. I think there is enough "3.0's are crap" threads on this forum.

And just to be clear, No I dont own a 3.0, but I did have one in my 99. There is nothing wrong with the motor. My only problem was it didnt have the torque to do what I needed it to do (keep in mind it was a 4x4). It was a great engine for commuting and it never once gave me a bit of problem.

All in all, I think what we are getting at is pretty simple. If someone asks a question and all you can think of is bashing, dont rep[ly to the thread. I dont think that is too hard, although I am sure it will happen here as well.

The fact is, for any engine other than the 8 plug 4cyls, there is no cheap/easy way to increase power. Personally I'm happy with my 3.0. If you're happy with your engine, than that's good. If you're not, then you should change your engine because it is what it is, and if there was a cheap or easy way to increase milage or power, ford would have already done it before putting it in.

Pretty sure there's a company or something that will build your 3.0 to an extreme amount, can't think of the dudes name though

If o.p. had thicker skin, he wouldn't feel the need to start a thread complaining about *******s. Even if he meant one thing, he still complained about another, and complaining=thin skin.

Oh, and o.p, you complaining about *******s on teh interwebz does nothing to contribute to FRF.

Brother, i hear you.....

what i always say is this:
The 4.0 owners always call our 3.0s the 3.slow.
They 4.0 owners think that they are the best because their trucks are 1 liter bigger, still haul and tow the same amount, still get the same fuel mileage, and they are both still only V6s. Its like comparing a Red Apple to a Green Apple.
They think they are the best...until a Ranger with a 5.0 rolls up and rains on their parade.
My 3.0 has towed/hauled/ and done all the work i have ever needed it to do. It hauls my atvs, it has helped me move 3 times, it gets me thru the snow and mud, it gets me to work and back, and i love it.

But to be honest... if i wanted or needed more power, i would just get a bigger truck, an f-150 or 250.

Two Rangers side by side going down the interstate, with their cruise controls set at 70mph. One is a 3.0 the other is a 4.0. They are both going the same speed, 70mph. They both will get to their destination. Does the owner of the 4.0 know that the ranger traveling next to him is a 3.0?? and vice versa.... NO, it doesn't matter...

And you say the 3.0 owners are looking for more power better mpgs, well guess what.... go into the 4.0 section, there are plenty of 4.0 owners wanting more power and mpgs as well...

I think he is trying to bring up a valid point. There is enough threads out on here to poke fun or bash or what have you that there really isnt any need to bash him on his thread. He didnt post his truck in the bash my truck thread so why make his into one.

Another side to this conversation is I have the feeling that he is fairly young conpaired to a good number of us. That being said, he may just want to be taken seriously and not like a dumb young kid. I dont see any issue with that. But, if that is the case, then he may want to get a little thicker skin. I see no issue with a little fun, so long as WE answer the questions of the OP's to the best of our ability. Such as this: Is there anything I can do to make my 3.0 get better milage and have more power?" We all know that there isnt much that can be done in that area. The 3.0 is what it is, thats simply my experance. However, if someone happened to increase the size of this vacuum tube, or tried brand X injectors or what ever, this would be a good place to add it. Now, tossing a little ribbing into the discussion is all well and good so long as the OP gets his question answered.

^Agreed.

However, it's a proven fact that people will bash the 3.0. O.P obviously realizes that. There's absolutely nothing that can be done about it. Instead of complaining about the 3.0 bashing, how about bashing the 4.0's three timing chains and plastic tensioners? There's plenty of dirt on the 4.0 and truth be told, a 4.0 isn't crap compared to a 5.0.

you think a 3.0 is slow? try driving the 2.0 63 HP ranger 2wd from the mid 80's.
took like 5 minutes to go from 0 - 60.

Seriously, this is what you're in for if you ask for technical advice on a 3.0? Ouch!
