Re: What's The Most Common Problem With Rangers?
I've owed a few rangers--always had one actually. Over all I have replaced more starters than any other one particular thing across the ones I've owned. You can count on looking under anything but a newer ranger and the shackles will be rotted out or on their way long before everything else underneath...cheap fix though--$20/ea. With regular upkeep and maintenance, I very rarely get surprises....I recently lost my low beams (switch--got one brand new--3rd of price on e-bay) in my 89 6 cyl 4x4, but that's an antique....1st surprise in 4+ years : )

I guess it's the windshield's fault that debris pits and cracks the windshield.
The biggest problem with Rangers are the drivers.

yup but mine was from a rock chip at 600 Miles

How about sticky rear brakes when the E-brake is on for more then a day or so and the weather is just cold or wet enough. Has happened to me 4-5 times already, kind of annoying. I hear these are more common on drum brake rangers but I have discs

I'll agree with the shackles and rear hangars. The design traps all kinds of road debris and moisture which causes them to rot out faster than anything else on the truck.
The multifunction switch is a common item but it was 13 years old when it went. Can't complain about that. The same goes with the starter.

Water leaks! Every time it rains, I get water in my floorboard. 3rd brake light, rear window, and door seals are worst things on Rangers.

Re: What's The Most Common Problem With Rangers?
Apparently Ford had problems with the check engine lights coming on and off - so they put in the owner's manual that if your check engine light comes on and off every couple of minutes, the problem that originally caused the light to come on has been corrected.
It seems like 80% of all the used Rangers I looked at had a belt tied around the arm rest console. The little plastic tab that locks the arm rest console closed apparently breaks off easily. Also, I know of several people with gas gauges that have gone out (including mine).

Well, yeah. I haven't driven this car (lets face it, a lowered 4cyl ranger is a focus with a frame) any differently than I have any other car I've owned. Unclean windshields bug the shit out of me so I would notice. My 80s nissans and 95 accord fared way better with no pitting

I don't know if it's really common but I had an issues with the sensor that reads the temperature of the coolant for the temperature gauge on the dash. NOT THE THERMOSTAT.
