Default Vulcan engines

Have a dumb question. What is a Vulcan engine. I have a 3.0 and the only thread is the Vulcan. Is all 3.0 vulcans or how do I tell if I have one or not. Thanks for the info.

I am pretty sure it's just the codename for the engine. The OHV 4.0s were called cologne engines. Just like the new 5.0s in the Mustangs are called Coyotes.

No, Ford's original small block engines were made in Windsor, Ontario were named after the city, hence they are commonly refered to as Windsor V-8's(302 351W). The design that came out of the Cleveland engine plant were called Cleveland V-8(351C & 400C), they were as a modifed version of these engines. The 4.0L comes from Ford's Cologne Germany plant, that's why they are refered to a Cologne V-6's, this family included the 2.8L, 2.9L, and both 4.0L engines. The Essex Ontario plant produced the 3.8L & 4.2L engines, they are based off the Windsor design but with differences. As by now you noticed the trend on how Ford names their engines. Duratec, Triton, Coyote are names Ford gave to the newer engine designs to distingish them from the older series.

----------

In the case of the Vulcan, the water gets murky. It was cast in Cleveland, assembled in Lima, Ohio, based loosely on the Cologne with attributes from the Windsor and the first engine Ford design with all metric parts.

Ford chose this name in homage to Vulcan, the mythological Roman god of fire and iron-working, as the engine is a fully cast iron design.

Its kinda common sense. The old 5.0s are completely different than the new 5.0s. The only thing they share are the displacements.

The tritions are the successor of the Windsors.

The 5.0 is in the triton family. Look it up. The whole group is called "ford modular v8" And it contains the 4.6 5.4 5.8 cyote 5.0 and the 6.8l v10

They still make tritons. The 2013 GT500 uses a 5.4l which has been replaced with thinner piston sleeves making it 5.8. Still Triton.
