I was actually wondering the same thing. I would guess you could use a couple of ratchet straps? Idk maybe someone else will chime in and help out

Yeah that's how i do it, ratchet straps make everything easier. I was just wondering if you strapped over the hood to keep the nose down. Maybe another technique for longer drives?

The above suggestion seems best. I would echo running straps to the front. It would suck to have the wind catch it wrong and have it twist around on you or damage the canoe. I do this with both my canoe and kayak.

If possible, I also run a strap from the stern to the back of the truck/SUV/trailer as well. Less critical but not a bad idea.

grab a saw some 2x4's and screws. 45 minutes and 8 ratchet straps. the yellow one is about a 15 foot kayak.

4 straps hold the frame down, 4 straps hold the kayaks down, 4 ropes keep them from sliding forwards or backwards.

^^ that's really funny. I just went to the lumber yard today to make my own rack. I did it for my dads f-350 before he got his fancy trac rack

btw, i love my 9.5 islander swifty for quick trips to the lake down the road, i can just throw that in the bed and go
