Default Coolant in oil 4.0

I am considering selling my 2000 xlt with coolant in oil. 4 door body clear coat coming off but 0nly 85000 on it. Salvage guy called me and said maybe worth $800.00. Sounds a little low ball to me. I just want to sell it because I'm done. Any feedback on what is worth would be appreciated.

Thats what is sounds like. I wouldn't pay much more for a truck with a bad motor and a bad shell. One or the other. .. not both

KBB lists it at $5165 fair condition for 2wd and $5995 fair condition for 4wd. $300 from Autozone for head gaskets, head bolts, oil, oil filter, and a weekend and you won't have coolant in your oil. Another $400-500 for some, stripper, primer, paint, clear coat, sand paper, a spray gun from Harbor Freight, and a couple weekends and the clear coat will be taken care of (perfect chance for a color change). Yes you can buy paint at that low of a price. I belong to another forum and got yelled at for posting up a link to a website so if you want to know where just PM me and I will give you the website or if the admins will allow it I will post it here. Now granted not everyone has the knowledge of how to do head gaskets or body work but I was always raised with the saying "you can't learn any younger." If you like your truck and want to keep it then grab a set of tools and go to work. I know times are tough financially all over the place so maybe it can't be done immediately but the $800+ that I just listed would be a heck of a lot cheaper than going out and buying a truck. Say even if you spend a little more it will still be cheaper than going out and buying a decent used vehicle that needs no work.

Odds are you cracked a head, they are known to split between the valve seats.

New heads can be had for 500 shipped or less.

As Blackwolf points out its a perfect chance to learn, if you have something to drive now that is. I would tear it apart, bag and tag everything before you spend a dime on parts. If you find it will cost more than you want to spend call that lowballer back and have him pick up your mess. Or get the parts and fix it.

If you want a step by step how tow I will need an email address to send you a ford repair PDF.

Assuming that the head gasket is bad and ONLY the head gasket then you will be ok. You have to diagnos why it is that the head gasket blew. Did he over heat it? Was it just worn? Is there damage to to head or block? A warped head will destroy that rebuild. Yes it could be that easy, but one should beware of tackling that job without expecting more hurdles to jump and more money to spend. Just saying
