Re: paint job
Not if you don't prep it like you were doing a standard gloss paintjob. I'm not sure if I understand the question. Flat black is flat black. It doesn't change anything but the color. Lol. But . . . I'm guessing you were asking because your truck needs a paintjob and you want it to be easy. If you want it to look good and last, its no easier than any other single stage paint.
This much is true: If you mess up a purple paintjob, people stare at you in confusion. If you get a little sloppy with flat black, you make no apologies, and nobody thinks twice about why you have overspray on your tires.

Re: paint job
Personally, I think flat black is ugly. The only time I've ever seen it is when people do it to a beater so that they can touch it up themselves with rattle cans. lol.

Re: paint job
Paint is paint. It will all be the same if its a similar kind of paint (acrylic, alkyd, etc.), though you can't really wax flat paint of any color unless you want it to be really hazy and cloudy looking.

I have both seen and done flat black on vehicles and I think the only way it will look good is if you have it professionally done. Anytime someone tries to rattle can flat black it comes out looking like shit.
I personally like flat black but only if it's done by a pro.

Re: paint job
When painting with a flat paint, what matters most is how evenly it’s applied. If you plan on rattle canning it, I’d say don’t go with flat. Now if you plan on hitting it with like a HVLP gun and going through the proper sanding phases, I’d say go for it.
And hell, if you’re just going flat black with it, why not just spray it down with Rustoleum? For a Ranger, it’d take about three quarts thinned. And at $8.00 a quart, that’s pretty affordable. Rustoleum’s a pretty tough paint too, and believe it or not, with the right thinner / hardener / paint ratio, it can come out looking pretty nice.
Just a thought…
