selling my ranger
well i have found a small oil leak on my ranger and im considering selling her.
i really dont want to but the fact i know something is wrong with my oil pan, or rear main seal wherever.. just really bugs me.
so before i do anything let me ask everyones opinions.
Now i would say rear main seal becasue on my bellhousing there is a oil stain from what seems to be coming from the general main seal area
other then that i dont believe its the valve cover gasket but who knows, all i know is i dont want to pull the trannie and or engine for such a bs fix. thanks for the input

You would have to tell the seller your thoughts about the oil leak so that may scare some people away

It's a ford thing. My 94' leaks a little. My dads 02' explorer does too. Just throw a little cardboard down

Re: selling my ranger
Dont sell your Ranger just get it fixed! And the people that lived across the street from me had a F-350 it leaked a lot of oil. But he still kept it and drove it every day. It was a 2007 i believe.

Re: selling my ranger
I wouldn't sell it because of a small oil leak, especially since u said u don't have to add any between changes.
I know people who have trucks that leak and burn oil so bad, they go thru a quart or two between changes, lol.
First what I would do, is clean up the oily area the best u can. Keep an eye on it and determine the exact location(s) of the leak.
Ah and check the oil filter too, lol if it's not on right or right, that can be a culprit.
Its a 98? How many miles on it?
My 99 has 185k on it, but my motor is a remanufactured motor from ford, and has about 55k on it. It started leaking oil in my garage this winter. I was like wtf? It shouldn't be leaking.
I went and degreased and cleaned it up. Also did my oil change myself, the shop that had did it before must not have did something right with the filter. Don't think it was sealed and tightened properly.
Well it hasn't been leaking since.

Re: selling my ranger
Your truck is not leaking oil. It is just sweating from all the hard work it does.
