This link should help, its just a bunch of info on different oil filters, since its on a honda site it has honda filters instead of motorcraft but it gets the point across, frams are crap, mobil 1 rocks and everything else just gets the job done.

Oil Filter analysis

Personally I use a Mobil 1 extended life oil filters with mobil 1 full synthetic oil. Never had any problems with either. Like said in the article if you plan on changing your oil 3000 miles or so you can get by with a cheaper filter, but if you run sythetic and run it to 5000-10000 miles before changing invest in a more expensive filter such as mobil 1 extended life, Bosch Premium, or any other filter with stamped steel ends and preferably a sealed metal bypass valve.

wow! glad i stumbled accross this thread guys.... i have a FRAM gold filter on my truck (Highest End Filter) and after hearing all of these things i am thinking about switching to Baldwin or Motorcraft.... Oil Change is due in less then a 1000 so you can bet your buttons i am NOT going to use FRAM.... I wonder if Baldwin makes a good filter... very good brand if i may say so myself

I have used motorcraft oil filters on my Ranger since I bought it new in 2001.I also use motorcraft oil filters on my 64 Falcon Sprint.They are good filters.

My buddy was running a fram awhile back, had about 1000 miles on it when his oil pressure dropped to shit. The damn cardboard end cap disintegrated and clogged up the whole works. Not fun. Don't use Fram in anything. Ever.

I usually run fram or even the wal mart brand. Whatever I can get cheaper. I have personally never had any problems with them. My last ranger had over 250,000 miles on it and never had any issues with the oil. I'm sure the other filters are much better, but the frams have worked in the past. Not too concerned with the filter. I'm more concerned with the actual oil.

I ran Fram before on my older cars but the quality is not there when compared to a MotoroCraft one I also use FleetGuard oil filters.

I use fram tough guard just because of the simple fact that there so easy to take on and off with that grip they apply.

Thats like playing Russian roulette and saying since the last five chambers didn't contain rounds that you'll keep playing. Yeh the fram filters may be cheaper and may work most of the time but seriously is it that hard to spend an extra $5 every 5000 or so miles (around a dollar a month on average) to get a better more reliable filter thats not made out of cardboard? Even though something may work 80% of the time its that last 20% that can really bite you in the ass.

i use NAPA gold... which is a WIX filter, i used a fram filter and had an oil leak.

I have used Fram mostly but once in a while I get STP. Never had any problems with any of them but I change my oil religiously at 3500 miles. Never had any filter leaks or anything like that

I've used Mobil 1 Oil & Motorcraft Filter since new (August, 2005 for this truck).

What I'm trying to figure out is why a 6 qt case of Mobil 1 & the filter for my truck at the local parts store costs $5 - $7 more than 7 qts of BMW Synthetic (made by Castrol for BMW) & filter at the BMW Parts Dept for my 2003 BMW 325xiT...

i run either a KN gold or motorcraft with royal purple 5w30 in th winter and 10w30 in the summer and every other oil change i run some lucas oil stabil. just to be on the safe side to keep everything in good shape i change my oil every 3,000 miles when i run the lucas i pour half a can of seafoam in the oil to clean out the sludge and i change my oil at 2,500 miles when i do that

K&N just for the fact of convienence, its wrench off. Saves time, if you ask me, its worth the little extra money I think about $14.00 at advance auto

O'Reillys carrys both the Motorcraft oil filter and Motorcraft Synthetic Blend oil so that's what I use since it's nearby and reasonable.
