not really looking for crazy HID brightness, but maybe just a minor upgrade?

^ what he said. the guy that had my truck before me put those in, yea... they look blue and all but they're dim, and mine didnt have the option of high beams.lol so i bought silverstar ultra's and i love them. when they go out, i'll think about hid's. but probably wont get them.lol

As everyone else said, no it's not worth it. All they do is give your lights a blueish look and dimmish the light output. Now, if your looking at spending $20 on that junk why not just spend the $40 or so on an actual HID kit?

if you want to upgrade, do the hid conversion. otherwise when you buy the cheap blue bulbs, you get cheap blue bulbs. plan on replacing them 3 times a year. at least thats the rate i was burning through them. i finally went back to sylvania silver star bulbs. havent had a problem since and they seem a little brighter too. however i do plan on upgrading all my vehicles to H.I.D. now that its more affordable. just remember, you get what you pay for. also a reminder, to those that care about little pieces of info, from 5k to 6k is the closest to direct sunlight (as far as color temp goes) and is probably the best reflective light as well. if you try to go higher than that you start getting the blue/purple look. and the output/distance the light "appears" to travel is less than a good standard halogen bulb. check out the other threads posted on bulb temp, rated in kelvin/color temp

the HID conversion usually comes in a kit, and very few require the purchase of additional items, they are typicaly plug and play, they are very simple to install. just as if you were replacing the bulb.(thats what your doing essentially) only difference is there is an additional box that plugs into the existing headlight plug, that connects your existing wiring to the HID system. the box is the control box for the new HID bulb. i think if you can change out your headlight bulb already, you have the ability to plug in the new HID system.

get philips xtreme power bulbs. 85% brighter than regular halogens + they have a european beam spread. $30 for 2 bulbs makes silverstars look like a candle in a coffee can.
