Default Experience with 55W HID's??

I'm looking to get some hid's soon, I want to get some 55w 5000k but I've heard things about it being too hot and burning up the wiring harness. Does anybody have any experience with these?

I do. Nothing but good things to say about them...I love my HID i got from DDM tuning. I ordered a 55w hi/lo kit with 4500k and its one of my favorite things about my truck. I dont have projectors yet but that will come later...just make sure you get the relay and everything needed. You'll love em!

light output:

snow:

heavy fog: (picture doesnt do justice, it was thick.)

55w burning up the wiring harness? Well I can dispel that one pretty quick. Your stock high beams using the same wires are 65 watt....

I had 55w plug-n-play 5000k for years. I've since upgraded to projectors, using the same 55w ballasts. My off-road lights (6" pro comps) are also upgraded to H3 HID's, 5000k, 55 watt. All of which work marvelous. And I can vaporize deer.

Nah not interested in projectors at all to be honest. But I was checking out DDM and it looks like they have some decent prices

Here's the deal the police and lights. What I'm about to say applies to just about any lighting project you can do...

1) If your lights are blinding to other drivers, you are breaking the law in all 50 states and will be pulled over and cited. It has nothing to do with what type of light it is or what color it is. It's aim. Bad aim blinds oncoming traffic. What better way to get the attention of a police officer than to shine a bright light in his face.

2) If you have a color other than white or amber facing forward, you are breaking the law in nearly every state. I say nearly every only because I haven't read the law for every state to say that conclusively. Nearly every state (if not all states) will specify that front facing lights must be white or amber. Putting a bunch of blue, green, purple, or other homoerotic colors in the front of your truck is a great way to make yourself stick out to the police. It is also distracting to other drivers. And they are very ineffective and dangerous in inclement weather due to the way blue light scatters.

3) If you live in a state that flat out prohibits modification to exterior lights or requires only SAE/DOT spec equipment (only a handful), then any HID modification is technically illegal. However, if you pay attention to #1 and #2 above, it is quite likely you will never get caught violating #3.

So, don't use stupid ass colors, stick with white for the headlights (4000-6000K) and white or amber for the fogs (3000-6000K). And don't drive around blinding people, aim them down enough to be a nice person. Drive passed your truck in another car to see how it is to oncoming traffic. Follow these simple rules and you'll probably be ok.
