Help - 2000 XLT Ford Ranger, Off Road Package
Well, I looked at my friends widows truck today and now I have to make the big decision. Its a 2000 XLT Supercab 2 door, 4x4, 3.0L, Automatic, with 46500 miles. No real options other than AC and CD player. It is Dark red, with a bed liner and cover. Has a "Flex Fuel"??? symbol on tailgate.
The truck is super clean, never driven in snow and always garaged. As sweet as can be. She says that she gets around 19 MPG's with it. I looked underneath and the original coating all in tack. No rust, no dents no blemishes anywhere on the truck.
Issues:
1. 3.0L does not get a good rap on the Forum
2. She is asking $7500 (I can probably get it for less)
3. Is the gas milage real
Any advice would be appreciated!

My 3.0 has been good to me,and if the government ups the ethanol in the gas you'll be good to go.

Sounds like a good truck, I'm happy with my 3.0, sure its gutless sometimes, but it gets the job done.
That gas milage figure sounds right, I averaged 19.3mpg for my last tank.

Re: Help - 2000 XLT Ford Ranger, Off Road Package
I was happy with my 99 3.0 5 speed. My buddy had a 2000 3.0 auto and he could get 19 on the hiway.

I'd hold out for a manual, especially in the 3.0's. It feels a lot more responsive than the auto.
But also if you want 4x4 consider the 4.0

Re: Help - 2000 XLT Ford Ranger, Off Road Package
Thats a pretty good price for that few of miles but still is 12 years old. There is nothing wrong with the 3.0 just a little less power. The 2000 ranger i rolled was the exact same truck 3.0 auto 4x4. I loved it and cant wait for it to back on the road again. As for MPG 19 is doable if you drive nice. I always got about 17 but I had a toolbox with over 100lbs of tools and stuff in the back and didn't drive very nice.

Re: Help - 2000 XLT Ford Ranger, Off Road Package
I had to pay $6000 for my 2000, same 3.0, automatic, and off road pkg but with 4 dr cab and 114000 mi. the price sounds good with that low milage, and you might get it a little lower in the bargan. If I am easy on the gas I can get 16 to 16.5 mpg so its close to what she is telling you. Slow, yes but its a pickup, but it does get the job done. I say go for it unless you want a 4.0
