Thumbs up Pick and Pulls Horror/Success Stories.

The pick and pull I got to here in Reno is stocked, I was looking for the poles for my spare tire, within 3 minutes of looking I had them located, paid for, and tested out. Lets hear you pick and pull horror/major success stories.

Funny you posted this thread. I just left Pull-a-Part, and I'm in the middle of pulling off a driver's side bed side. I've drilled out 23 or so spot welds and removed 5 bed bolts, but one of them is stripped and I'm trying to figure out how to get it out. I have a few more spot welds to go, and I'm taking my bolt cutters in the morning to try and cut the bed bolt. Hopefully I'll have it off tomorrow.

ETA: I had to go to Home Depot to get a torx bit for the bed bolts, and the cashier girl was hottt!!! I came close to saying something to her, but I let my shyness get the best of me. Now I'm regretting it haha.

Nobody around here has a ranger that I can find. So I guess thats a fail story haha.

Girls driving trucks or working in hardware stores makes them at least 10x hotter imo. Instant boner lol. I get the shyness sometimes too, bro don't worry 'bout it....always regret missed opportunites though. Carpe Titties I say.

The fact that I looked like I was homeless didn't help the situation either. (I was dressed in torn up clothes because I knew I was going to be getting dirty and possibly tearing them anyways.) And while I was at Pull-a-Part, people just wouldn't leave me alone! Four guys walked up to me asking me to take a bolt out of a headlight assembly because they didn't have a socket set. Then came back later asking me to do it again. Like, seriously, bros??? Then another guy walked up to me, wanting to start a conversation about what I was doing. "So how are you getting it off? Do you own a body shop? How can you see the spot welds???" Like, for real, bro??? Then after that, another guy came up to me wanting to pull the bumper pad off the truck that I was working on, then proceeded to ask me where he can find all the Rangers on the yard. Like, come on, bro. Go look for yourself like everyone else.

Success- My daily driver at the time was an 89 Mazda B2200 and I had just gotten into a slight accident the day before and had to replace the front end. I go to the pick n pull and wonder around for an hour or so in "Other Import" since they had no Mazda section. As I was about to give up looking and call cert-a-fit I saw it. a red 87 with everything intact but the windows! But I was by myself cause my buddy who was gonna go bailed cause he was too hung over. I took off the hood, grill, bumper, fenders, wiper bezel(I guess thats what you call it lol, why it came off Idk) even he passenger door piled it on the hood and carried above my head for probably a third of a mile when the truck for the workers stopped and gave me a ride since I still had 2 miles to go even though it was against their rules to give a ride to non-employees. All of it even fit in my monte carlo!

Horror- Today, no rear windows for newer rangers that wasnt cracked or broken $328 out of my pocket cause the guy who broke it is "broke" but on the bright side Ill reccomend safelite auto to yall! lol

Fail would be me needing a stepside tailgate and EVERY single one of the MANY rangers my yard has, NONE of them are stepsides. Success would be me needing a blinker/parking light assy and none of the rangers were the right year range, or they were already gone. Then i watched them bring a ranger in that was smashed pretty bad that still had a good set on there! I just had to wait for it to be processed, i had them hold it right away!

----------

Me looking all over for a parking/blinker light and running a cross a really nice brush guard that needed to only be refinished, pulling the brackets, (the brush guard was already off) and carrying them about 3/4 miles to the front and getting it all for $20! Thats one success story!

Today I went to the only salvage yard in my county that has a truck with the engine perches I need for my F150. Originally the truck had a 400 in it, but somebody swapped in a 460. When they did the swap, they completely rigged the install. It looks like about the only thing they did right was to use the custom 460 swap motor mounts, but I have no way of knowing until I disconnect everything from the motor, and disconnect the motor from the transmission. Then I have to have the junkyard's loader pull it out.

AND THEN, if that doesn't suck enough, there's a possibility that the perches are riveted onto the frame rails by Ford, and I don't have the proper tools to cut the rivets off with. So if there are rivets, I'm screwed, unless the junkyard is nice enough to torch around where the perches are riveted to the frame without charging me an arm and a leg.

-------------

As for success stories, out of the last 15 trips I've made to my favorite junkyard, everything I've put on the counter has only cost me $5. This includes carpet for my F150, a shorty console for my Ranger, the T-Case inspection cover for my F150, numerous misc knobs and emblems, and plenty of other stuff.

found my armrest's last weekend, that was a big one on my J/Y list, especially because i needed 00/01+ to work with my door panels.

on the other hand, we had to drive an hour and a half to the pick n pull because no other local yards let you walk around anymore because of a$$holes and insurance, stopped at probibly 4 closer yards the day before because my buddie needed a plug for his crankshaft sensor on his B series, and only one yard had one but the guy told us "they don't sell stuff like that used because it's always bad". so we eather had to make the long trip, or buy a whole new wireing harness. it really makes me sad, i've walked through all these yards when i was little with my dad, and thing's have really changed for the worse.

and to top it all off, my favorite "old" junkyard (over in jersey) wound up having the EPA come in and tell them they had to clear the yard out within 5 years. that's one yard i'll miss.

My dad does that shit to me all the time. I"ll be wrenching in the driveway, he comes up to me every goddamn time and starts asking what I'm doing. Worst was when the hurricane irene hit the east coast. I thought I'd be safe from him in the garage wiring my new headunit in...nope thought wrong. Try wiring 30 freaking connections in a dark garage with your creepy old dad standing there rattling off random questions....
