my passenger side upper ball joint is coming apart, my repair manual say's that I have to replace the the control arm because the ball joint is integrated to it, but yet auto zone sell's both the ball joint it's self and the control arm w/ the ball joint, and when I looked on the ford web site they have the ball joint by it's self too. I don't want to just buy the ball joint and get it all a part and find out that i needed the the whole control arm one because then I'd be screwed.. any one knew what one I need???

ive replaced the upper and lower ball joints on a 1999 ranger and my 2003 both had the upper control arm and ball joint as one assembly

The only way I've seen it done is to remove the whole control arm.

However, a question for somebody perhaps more in-the-know, are the joints pressed in? This would make it so you could press the joint out of the arm and the new one back in. I don't know if they are this way on the control arms or not. I believe they are pressed in on the older models.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
