Well i drive 40 miles to school in lake effect storms and never had a problem. And have been down seasonal roads with a foot of snow! Might be more of opperator error than vehicle error. LOL jokeing

About $6 for a 60# bag at your local Home Depot or Lowes.

2wd Rangers are great in the snow if you take the time and prepare for snow.

You need weight in the box over the axle and you need good tires. Not any of those all season pieces of crap, but good snow tires or all terrain tires.

our local ace hardware has 60lb tubes for about $4. 40lb bags for like $3.50. last year i put in junk from the garage that i knew nobody would steal.

this year i slapped on some mud grips on the rear and 240lbs on the axle. i even did pretty good on the black ice this morning. the snow from yesterday already melted.

We have a water softener so i use 40 pound bags of water softener salt. The bags are verry strong and dont break, then in spring time put the salt in our tank.

That's why I dont understand why people buy 2WD trucks. they are useless IMO. Sure I have a 4x4 and I drive in 2WD 99% of the time, but guess what, it sure is nice when I need 4x4, all i have to do is hit a switch and I can get where I need to go.

I wouldn't call them useless. It depends on where you live and what you're going to be doing with it. My old 2wd Ranger served me fine, but I never took it off the street or my driveway. These days, though, I can go just about anywhere I want and be confident that I'll be able to get back out, which is a really great thing where I live. There's lots of mud and usually a yearly flood around here.

Because its an extra expense. A 4x4 ain't cheap when something goes wrong. Also location location. Don't need 4x4 here in southern cali. I can understand your logic in a full sized truck, but not with a ranger. My 2wd ranger can climb in snow just as easily as my buds 4x4 tacoma. It's all about how you drive, good tires, and proper weight placement.

if money was no object... I'm sure we'd all drive 4.0l 4x4 trucks!
But sometimes just having a truck is a luxury...

^^^ This.

Also.. for all those out there who claim their 2wd is just as good as 4x4 due to their awesome driving skills.. If fancy tires and strategic weight placement could make your 2wd just as good as 4x4.... then 4x4 probably wouldn't exist.

And I've owned a 2wd L/S Ranger...

Useless on anything besides pavement.

you're totally right. and i have a 2wd. just that in Oklahoma City you rarely need it. hell, you don't need to be a great driver. so your perfectly right.

edit: my 2wd will in no way compete with a 4wd, except by gas mileage, haha

Not denying the use of 4x4, but to say that 2wd rangers are useless is a bit much. Considering ive never had issues with traction on gravel, ice or snow. You must not have "awesome" driving skillz brah
