Default Engine Idle Control

I've had my Ranger for about 8 months and am really enjoying it. It looks like there is alot of good information on this site - hopefully someone can help me out with my problem!

I drive my Ranger 60 miles a day commuting to work. Every once in awhile, say maybe once a week or so, the engine will rev on me when I depress the clutch to change gears. If I am upshifting the RPM's will not fall off at all when I push the clutch in. If I decide to upshift between 1800-2000 RPM, the engine will jump to about 2200 RPM and say there untill I put it back in gear. When I am downshifting, the same thing will happen. I will get down to about 1200 RPM, but when I depress the clutch to go down a gear the engine will jump to around 2200 RMP.

When I am in gear, it feels as if the truck is trying to speed up even when my foot is off of the gas, especially at low speeds. I've tried revving the engine way up thinking the throttle was stuck, but it will only fall back to that 2200 mark. The only way I can get it to stop is if I leave it in a high gear slowing down so the RPM's get fairly low, probably into the 600-800 range.

Like I said, this only happens every so often, so I know it doesn't have to do with the way I am shifting. Sometimes it will start halfway through my trip, other times right at the beginning. The next time I start the truck up the problem has usually gone away.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
