Anyone subscribed to this thread?
How come there's no info on Rangers older than 2001????
I have two rangers:
1999 XLT ext cab 2 door 3.0L Flex Fuel, automatic transmission, sliding rear window, pop-out rear side windows, no power windows, no power locks, (it came with no tilt steering or cruise, but i added that), also has PATS but NO key FOB cuz no power locks?
has Grey interior, came with black gauge cluster, i swapped in white one, also came with a plain jane cd player, no cd changer etc.
had aluminum alloy rims with bridgestone firestone tires.

1998 XLT ext cab 2 door 3.0L, automatic transmission, sliding rear window, pop-out rear side windows, has power locks, tilt steering, power mirrors, key fob, NO PATS, has black gauge cluster, same aluminum rims as my 99, same stock cd player.
But this truck had a gas tank skid plate and a transfercase skid plate... which i took off and put onto my 1999. Also has TAN interior.

Both trucks only had 4x4 decals on the tailgate..nothing on the sides, both are XLTs, and the only big difference between the two are the skid plates, and the power options, and the PATS anti-theft.

Just wondering why one had the skid plates, and the other didn't. And why if they are both XLTs, why the power options are different.

More info on older ranger models would be great..

Skid plates were optional. Power locks/doors/mirrors were optional in 99 for the XLT. Not sure when it became standard for XLT

Just bought a 2004 Ranger Edge 4x4 and am unsure exactly what I have on my hands as far as what is stock and what isn't. I've read and re-read the 2004 specs but can't make sense of what I actually have. So, here's a short breakdown:
Bright Red; single cab; 3.0L; Manual trans; manual doors, windows, mirrors (they fold away w/chrome caps); am/fm/casette/cd; tilt steering; white gauges; vinyl flooring; chrome bar grille; solid back window; flareside bed (it's fiberglass-I only know this b/c the paint is chipped on one edge and I can see fibers); powerdome hood (I think anyway--is this fiberglass too???); fog lights; color matched bumpers; black tow hooks; heavy duty hitch; skid plates; 5 spoke 16" wheels; rear diff is blue (???); 265/75/R16 (and looks like larger tires will fit w/o mods--has it been lifted?); plastic bed liner
I am unsure about the diff gearing and whether or not they're L/S or open as it's not in front of me....it's in the shop STILL (2wks now) b/c it died on my way to work a few days after buying it...it's under warranty and is getting new motor internals as well as fuel pump, line and filter
Anyway, I didn't see some of the options this truck has listed on the specs in this forum and am puzzled.
Oh, and the doors were FILLED with water...I pulled the tiny black rectangles out of the bottom of both doors and several gallons flushed out...is this type of water retention normal or did the previous owner use it as a submarine?

Red face Help me out!!!

im new on here and im trying to work my way around on this thing. i have been searching questions on here like crazy to see how i can figure out my front axles size(dana 20 or dana 35). Haven't found anything yet. WHAT SHOULD I DO??? BTW, i understand long time experienced ranger owners hate when newbies ask questions.

If it has color matched bumpers it is a edge model.
Sounds like you have a step side bed, so you don't have fender flares.

So I've got a (what's seems to be) 05 Xl, with a 3.0, I've always assumed it was a fleet truck at one time, would that be why? Only mentions Xl's with the 2.3.

When I posted that I bought a 2000 regular cab 4x4, people on here were shocked. What year did the the 4x4 Ranger only become available in Extended Cab?

Glenn,
Looking at the sticker below, it looks like the pwr locks, windows, and the PATS key fob, came in with the "Luxury Group" as part of the "preferred package 867A"
I just wish it would have had 4 doors. lol It would make loading the guitars much easier.

Funny that the skidplates were optional in '99, but standard equipment on '98s.
I refer to the link below. Look in the "Standard Equipment" section on the left, 6th down under "Functional". I believe about the only option missing on that truck was 4 doors.
but then....

Hi everyone. I'm a bit confused about my ranger model.

So, I have 2004 (maybe december 2003) Ranger with 2,3L engine and automatic transmission. Badges tell that this is "ranger custom". What exactly does it mean? Looks like it's XL version, but I'm not sure. Please help

Being that you are from Russia, it sounds like we need a European member to answer your question. I doubt many in the U.S. have the information you need.
