Fix shift indicator?
I just purchased a 2000 XLT auto and the shift indicator (the little pin that tells what gear you are in) is stuck at 1st gear. It does not bother me much, just a minor cosmetic issue, but I was wondering how to fix it if it is easy I will do it 1 weekend.

Re: Fix shift indicator?
sounds like the cable is off or broke. go under and look to see where it is. if its broke you can pull that part from the junk yard after you remove the cluster its just held in by 2 pressure clips...

If you watch the whole video you will SEE that he also shows how to take the loop Off and Put it back ON the Selector lever. So if his fell off it will show him how to put it back on.

Doesn't matter when the OP was does it? People are still having this issue and a Search result with a FIX to their problem is all that matters.
But I guess you know better.

I didn't see the part where he took out the P R N 2 1 indicator which is the part needed if the wire needs to be replaced completly, which is what I was refering to - yet I tried to skip only the parts where he took apart the trim to get inside the dash.
I feel like you are seeing me as an enemy, I am not meaning to be rude to you, and I do understand why you posted in this. I myself just try to avoid answering year old questions but don't have a problem with it if others do.

Re: Fix shift indicator?
Funny, I did this very fix last weekend, after watching that video... I like ChrisFix's videos.

Chances are it's snapped. That little orange wire that goes to the indicator is ridiculously thin
Mine snapped a while back
