Default Deep snow getting the belt wet, stalling the alternator

Saturday night we had that massive snow storm that's been all over the news. I love snow, it doesn't phase me. But this was more the most I've ever driven through unplowed. The snow was so damn deep on the road, it was getting the serpentine belt wet and causing the alternator to stall. Eventually when i came out of deep snow, it would dry off and start spinning it again.

Is this common or is something else not right?

i've had this happen myself by driving through water but never snow. i just let things dry off and kept going since we were doing emergency rescue at the time for creek flooding.

My brother had this happen to him on his Dodge Ram. Going through about foot and half of snow on a unplowed seasonal road. Battery light came on, and the belt was squealing big time. About a mile or so on a plowed road it all went back to normal. I suppose there was just too much snow on the belt and it was slipping on the alternator pulley.
