Default Ford Ranger FX4 Question?

I'm looking at buying a used 2008 Ford Ranger FX4 with 14k miles. I don't really need or rather wont use the 4x4 much, (it just happens this truck is exactly what I want but has the 4x4 that I don't really need) Are their issues that I should be aware of with 4x4's (besides lower gas mileage). Any detailed info would be appreciated. Thnaks
yeah, they only time I see myself using the 4x4 is when I go up to the mountains in the winter and maybe going to the beach or out in the woods. There aren't any issues with driving 4x4's on the highway long distances?

There is not much to be concerned about. The only thing you should do a few times a year is to engage the 4-WD a few times a year to keep them properly lubed and etc. (both 4-hi and 4-low)

Only that the 4wd may get 'froze up' if you don't use it every now and then. Just put in 4-high and 4-low every now and then to keep it lubricated. Make sure you're not on pavement in 4-low... bad for the drivetrain. Just drive around for a minute in each then wait a few months, repeat.

That'll just keep it working in case you do ever need it or want to sell it.

I would personally keep looking for a 2wd. Unnecessary weight, drag bothers me.
