4wd vs. 2wd
hey i have my 2001 ranger 4x4 3.0v6 and i just recently got 10 mpg while driving with a mix of 4wd and 2wd in the snow , I average about 16 to 17 mpg during the summer which is not bad (driving with a light foot).
During the spring i plan on looking for a 2wd ranger newer then mine, and i was wondering what kind of gas mileage the 2wd 3.0v6 and 4.0v6 rangers get. (I know how good of MPG the 4cyl. get) thanks

i would get another 4x4 in the 4.0.. seem to be a better truck than the 2wd... it may be because the gears in mine suck balls but idk...

Yup, the newer 4.0 (2001+) and the 3.0 are rated by the EPA as getting the exact same MPGs.

i would also trade my 2wd for your 4x4
i have a 99 2wd 4.0 auto, its been averaging 18mpg with a home made hot air intake on it, i just took that off though and switched to a stock replacement drop in filter and pulled the air box silencer, haven't burned through a whole tank yet but i'm betting i'll get 22mpg now
i also have a 98 4x4 with a 3.0 auto, with stock 3.73s and 31in tires the mileage was like 15 around town, but i got like 27mpg on the highway, cruised at a nice low rpm and didn't struggle at all, always liked my 4x4 better
i'll post again with updated numbers on my 2wd
also, have yu considered putting an electric fan or a set of underdrive pulleys? they helped out on my 4x4, i'm amazed that you got 10mpg, were you in 4hi or 4lo? and how bad were the roads?

thanks its a good camera
well im going to look for a edge 2wd or a tremor 2wd, its should be an upgrade of a truck just with out 4wd.
I was in 4 hi and the roads were really bad with about 10 inches of snow but only for about 2 days and i traveled about 60-70 miles in it the entire time I was in 4wd.
