Default surface rust on frame

i have surface rust on the frame, spare tire holder, few other areas.i bought my truck in melbourne,fl,very near the ocean.now it's here in orlando,fl 45/50 miles from the ocean.i plan on wire brushing like hell, the frame, etc.blow off with compresser, paint with black rustoleum, let it dry, apply another coat.i would think i'll be good to go.any thoughts? ? ?.
of course,when i move to the fl,keys,in a couple years,big ! ! difference.then i'll have to go to plan b,spray undercoating.
anybodys opinion? ?
bye!

That should work for you and should help prevent more rust pretty decent as long as you stay away from the salt. Just an FYI, besides not looking great surface rust has no effect on the strength of the frame.

I've never had much luck with Rustoleum inhibiting rust, especially where it's going to get nicked up by road debris etc. The best thing I've used for that purpose is POR 15. It's made to paint over rust and inhibit it's progression. They even make a paint especially for automotive chassis. I love the stuff, and everyone I know who has used it say it works great!

DON'T use spray undercoating!! it will trap any moisture in the metal, causing it to rust & rot out like you wouldin't beleive! rustolium is an ok fix, even if you need to re-apply it in a couple of years. POR 15 is an even better fix.
