well, if you'd search then my post wouldn't have happened. i want to keep up on the new threads but can't because of all the repetitive threads. and those year old or whatever posts have input on pros and cons just like you want.

Lol another one of these threads? If you want mileage get the 4 banger, if you want 4 cylinder power that drinks gas like a V6 get the 3.slow, if you want power get the 4.0

Re: 3.0 vs 4.0
Both are good motors, both get about the same gas milage, ( not good ), 4.0 has more power and torque, neither motor can be upgraded in the power dept. without a lot of money. I ended up with the 3.0, not because I wanted it, but because the truck I wanted came with it. If I could have bought the truck new, it would have been the 4.0 for sure. The 3.0 suits me fine as I was driving a old Dacota 4X2 with a 4 cyl that rusted in half. Just be sure to get what you want, and be happy with what you get.

Re: 3.0 vs 4.0
I have the 3.0 so I'll give you the feedback on that:
Pros:
Reliability
Gas mileage is ok (18-23)
(Honestly that's about all I can think of)
Cons:
Underpowered (Lacks acceleration and power IMHO, should've kept it in the Taurus)
Gas mileage (I know, I get pretty decent, but for the lack of power I should be getting more)
Repairs (reliable, but I feel like every time I have had a repair its a pain in the a**, idk if its any better than the 4.0 in that regard)
Transmission (Bought this truck at 40k and it was taken care of beautifully, but I swear I hate the Auto Tranny its paired with. Never ever shifts at the time I feel appropriate, but I'm not familiar enough to know if the 4.0 has a better one.)
