i personally wouldnt feel comfortable with it. i would go with a V8 and make sure that the frame is set up for it too. check your tow hitch too and see what the max tow capacity is. you may be able to do it as long as you have good breaks and your not going up or down many hills. all this is assuming you have two horses in the trailer. good luck

No. It MIGHT be able to do it, but you'd regret it. Add the weight of the two horses, along with the weight of the trailer alone, and you're looking at close to 2 tons. The brakes on your Ford Ranger were not designed to stop with that much weight pushing against them and (more importantly) your transmission wasnt designed to pull that kind of weight. Also, if your hitch ball is on your bumper, the two horse trailer could easily rip it right off. Even if your hitch were welded beneath the bumper onto the frame, a 2 horse trailer would likely exceed the weight limit for your truck's suspension. I just think it's WAY too risky. Consider, instead, a 1-horse trailer with double axles. Aside from being 1/2 the weight to pull and stop, a double axle single-horse trailer would put a LOT less weight on your hitch. These trailers are a bit tough to find, but it would be worth the effort. Your Ford Ranger truck is considered a "light duty" truck, and just wasnt built to handle a 2 horse trailer.

My question:
Can a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT V6 4.0Liter haul a 1horse trailer with say a 1000lb horse in it?

Its auto, and recently got ceramic breaks.

I dont think I'll ever do any towing for horses, but I was curious incase my girl ever would need me to haul just her horse

Dude, the maximum towing capacity on rangers is 6,000 lbs.

If it doesn't exceed that, you should be good. But it will put some strain on the engine.

----------

Also, breaking is a issue. Because of the lack of disk breaks in the back...

Ceramic brakes will not last at all when towing heavy loads.
