How much weight?
I have a new 2009 Ranger sport 2WD, 6 cyl., 5 speed. with the snow about to start flying here in central Ohio I am wondering how mouch ectra weight I should think about adding to the bed for winter driving. I have been told to buy the tubes of sand, but am open to any and all suggestions.
Thanks for any help and hints you can give me. This will be my first year with a rear wheel drive vehicle (especially a pickup) in many years.
Drive safe guys and gals.

I always lined up cinder blocks across the back, with a new truck get anywhere from a 100 to 500 pounds of something soft that won't shift around. Any weight at all will help. I always had 4x so a squirrley rear end = fun to me!

I have two 40# sand bags and a set of old rims and tires so i have around 200 lbs and we got a lil snow today and i did fine but i like to play a lot since im only 19. but a couple hundred pounds should do u just fine as long as u have decent tires

I used to put about 250-300 lbs of sand in my Tacoma, IIRC.

my first ranger was 2wd and i always put just a huge tree stump about 150 -200 lbs in the back. i put some nails in the bottom to fit in the groove of the bedliner to keep it from sliding around.. before that i had 2 cinder blocks but had one of them bounce out ant put a nice dent in the truck after hitting a massive pot hole at slow speed

i never bothered putting weight in my 2wd last year, i was on bald tires too haha
my 4x4 always had the cap on it during the winter so i guess that added like 300lbs, being a 4x4 it didn't really need it though

Not sure if I'm looking forward to driving in the snow in my old beast. She spins up the rear tyres very easily in the rain and even in just slightly damp conditions. That being said, I used to ride my old Yamaha enduro in the snow, and loved every minute of it, especially going sideways round corners

That's why I used to use sand. I don't think some people think about the consequences from using stuff that can go flying.
I urge anyone who's going to weigh down the box to first consider what's going to happen to said weight in the event of a rollover or accident. Choose wisely.

I'm sure the Mustang has more weight over the rear axle than an empty Ranger does.

I don't put weight in my Ranger but I have 4wd. My Sonoma is 2wd and I used to put 4 or five sand bags in the back. They never moved and they were easy to move if I needed to carry something.

anyone ever seen the bed blat-er its a pad or mat you fill with water and it adds weaght to your truck?
i would think it could slosh around and actually push you when the water shifts?
but thats just a guess
