Is it down to emission laws or something? whatever goes over there comes here eventually so perhaps we'll all be driving hybrid cars and trucks in the future

We have only one diesel car here that I can think of. It is the Volkswagen Jetta/ Bug.

its because the public is extremely misinformed about the current generation diesels. the new clean diesels are better than any gas engine i know of. the average american just thinks black smoke billowing out of an 18 wheeler when they hear the word diesel and immediately say no. it'll change soon though because the new CAFE standards are set at 28.5 mpg(used to be 20.5 mpg) for light trucks and thats probably only possible with more diesels.

Mercedes, BMW, VW/Audi all have diesel cars in the states. The other reason diesel cars didn't catch on here was GMs horribly designed 5.7l diesel cars. No power whatsoever, on top of that they pretty much all blew up. There is one here in town and I'm suprised it runs.

That looks a great pick-up, should be cheap to run with a 2.0TD and 6 speed. I drive a new passat alot with the same engine, its very powerful.
