Re: why are Ranger good trucks
You should know that the aftermarket is not full of Ranger parts.
Explorers are like treasure chest's of Ranger parts
Your lift options are limited
The 4.0 is not a high performance motor
The best mileage mileage you'll see on the highway if you baby it is around 20 MPG

Re: why are Ranger good trucks
They're not.
They're an overpriced, cheaply built, small, uneconomical, 1990's technology hunk of steel. Not to mention some of the parts are so poorly designed, it makes me want to cry. It's also nearly impossible to get any help from Ford on them, because they have their head so far up the F150's rear.
That being said, it takes a real man to love and appreciate all the deficiencies in his Ranger, and if you hate the Ranger as a whole, you're not a real man. Every vehicle has problems, and although my Ranger has had it's fair share of issues, she still tracks down the road like a champ. I love my Ranger, but I HATE Ford Motor Company. It's not the truck that's the problem, it's the ignorant apes who design it to fail.
Regardless, you should be completely happy with your Ranger as long as you keep on her maintenance, including the transmission. Regular maintenance and tender loving care is the only thing that is slowly helping my Ranger get over it's horrible past with moronic Ford technicians who can't figure out how to unplug connectors and keep track of all the bolts.

dependable, lots of parts for them, since they haven't really changed since 83.'
