Thumbs up Camping setup?

So, i actually have time to goof off on here today. I was curious to know, since so many of us use our trucks to go camping and whatnot, how to you guys go about setting up camp. Like do you sleep in the cab, bed, or a tent? How long do you usually stay out? Was thinking about making it more in depth, but that's more of an off topic thing... Anyway, i'll start off:
-I've actually only taken the truck out a couple times, 1) but i slept in my bed with my tailgate down (damn toolbox), no tent or tarp, with a sleeping bag, pad, and a couple jackets. Keep in mind it was perfect weather and there was a campfire about seven feet away with a very calm breeze. 2) Other times it was in the cab with a couple blankets and a sweatshirt. Only a few clouds, but it was real misty in the morning.
-1) Was only out for a night, two days. Maybe dropped in the high 30's, at least that's what the weather report said before i left. At Johnson Valley OHV (desert, for y'all that don't know). 2) Same thing, only out for two days, one night. Dropped into the 40's and 50's. At a vineyard out in Temecula for airsofting.
Every other time i've been in a trailer or a tent, but mostly our family's Weekend Warrior. Lol.

i toss the cap on the bed and sleep there. wouldin't mind having an air matress for it, other than that plenty of room to strech out, and warm enough with some blankets, plus nice & dry

I sleep in a tent. It not really camping if you sleep in the cab but the bed I guess still counts. I keep a eno hammock in the truck at all times too

My buddy has a cap on his old Toy Taco and i'm pretty sure he was the most comfortable out of all of us. Lol. You just use a pad now or straight up cold, hard bed?

Ah i get it. Lol. I'd do it, except i don't have a hitch yet, and where i go, there are no trees. Just rocks and bushes. Although i may have to find the right rock next time i go out.

There is a tree-less hammock set up you can do with pipes and some rope

I don't know if i'd trust myself setting one up. Haha. Hell, i'll just put it in between my truck and a buddy's truck. Problem solved.

And install a tent roof type "Overland" in bed?
Just create a structure that holds it raised to equal the banks! Below you create a boot.
With this configuration, here in Italy, many people go to Africa! They have 2 or 3 beds and can stow water, fuel, tools, etc.. protected from unwanted eyes.
Also, when the curtain is closed and does not disturb the aerodynamic loads are not high in off-road!

i toss some cardboard down and lay on that. not super comfy but way better than the ridges of the bedliner.

That thing is awesome dude! How'd you even find that? And what's inside of it?

I think anything is better than those stupid ridges. Lol. I just found an old bed roll my grandpa had and used that. Try using a pad, it'll probably be a little more comfortable than cardboard.

I have no idea what you mean dude... You mean a homemade tent that you can put in your bed???

That be one sexy beast right there! I'd get a shell if i knew i'd use it enough. Plus, my quad wouldn't fit in there anymore so i'd have to buy a trailer... already looking into a hitch regardless. My buddy lined his whole bed with LED's when he had his truck. Looked like a freakin' night club in there. Haha.
Edit: Random, but does anyone at your school screw with your Firestik in the lot? Or do you just take it off?
