I'm working on a set up for the bed as far as pads or an air matress to use on the bed since I have a cap on both. Right now, I just use tents.
Yeah, i'll probably do the same for a while. Tents are ok for the most part.

Is that one of those Sportz Truck tents? I've always liked those a lot, but i've never thought it'd be worth the money. And i don't want to take my tool box in and out. Haha. How do you like it?

With that much room up top, you could probably just tuck in a regular single mattress. Haha. You'd be set for a while!

I throw in the booster kit with the inverter and viola I have power for whatever I want. I've done this many times and am quite comfortable, especially in the rain storms where my tenting partner are getting soaked...lol
I have always been hardcore about camping, so I don't consider this as camping...its my option between a tent and a hotel room.
I've got a couple of nights in it at -40c to, just use a candle lantern with an 6 hour candle and the windows cracked to keep out the frost. And as every good mountianeer and winter camper knows, a pee bottle is uber important.
My set-up sleeps 2 in reletive comfort with room for gear. My dog loves it to, but he's a bed hog.
Haha. Yeah, i've been in one of those storm situations in a tent... no fun for me. Lol. I can say i've never experienced -40c though... i'm pretty glad i haven't, no offense. Haha.
Pee bottle is important, you just gotta make sure it's got enough volume... I've got two labs and they're the same way. Lol. Good thing is, is that they keep you pretty warm. I just hate getting woken up with a big lick to the face at 530AM. Haha.

lmk if u want pics of the frame
I've seen that frame! I've considered building one pretty soon, but it'd be a little different than yours. I wanted to build on tall section that goes to the ground in front of the tailgate and have it angle down to the front of the bed, in front of my tool box. It's still in the design phase right now.

shoot that reminds me...i built mine for without the toolbox...gonna have to redesign it if i use it someday lol or remove the toolbox! ill stick with removing the toolbox. i might set it up for camp next year for storage of things that shouldnt get wet, like my BIKE! because last year i put it under the trailer awning and someone tripped over it, scratched the hell out of it. i didnt care but it coulda been worse!

Lol. Yeah, and my tie down holes have little hide-away d clamps, so i can't just stick poles in there. But i want it infront of the tailgate anyway since i can't fit in my bed with the toolbox in (well, kinda, my feet can go under it but whatever). If i cover my bike, i'll just put it next the truck and throw a tarp over it.

i camp in the back of my truck all the time. ski bum status. i sleep in this at ski areas, trailheads, rockclimbing crags ect. its been damn cold before, 0f and below. ive got a camper shell and i put a platform in the bed. ive gone through 2 versions, the first one real simple, a sheet pf plywood sitting on 2x6's. there are ledges molded into the bed that allows you to rest 2x6's across the width of the bed and allows you to lay a 4x6 sheet of plywood flat. this allows me to sleep on the platform and store crap under the platform. i ran with this version for a while and then this year upgraded it, adding compartments for storage to keep things from sliding around (inspiration can be found at bajataco.com). laying on the plywood i have have a layer of cheap blue sleeping pads (3 fit perfect) under a roll of carpet. ive also pulled 2 screws at the end of each window and installed rods and hangers. the next plan is to make a fleece and silnylon covering to cover the tailgate and window to add space with waterproofness and a place to set the space heater.

I haven't camped in my truck yet but I plan on it in the future. I just bought a topper for it tonight(I will make a thread for it tomorrow with pics) and would just sleep in that. I like the idea of a loft like you all were talking about. I have a 12x12 pop up canopy that I would set up overlapping the back of the truck.
