Default Working under the Hood of your Ranger

Boys I've always owned lowered sports cars - my 02 Edge is my first truck. Since I just bought it and it appeared to have the original plugs, wires and serp belt, I decided to replace a few things this weekend. Everything went well but how do you guys work on these trucks - just climb up and lay on the engine? What I'm getting at is, it was relatively easy to get to cylinders 1,2,4,5 but I found it easier to get a step ladder and lay on the engine for cylinders 3, 6 and the routing of the wires against the firewall. Enlighten a truck newbie - how do you work on your truck - ladders, platforms, crates? I'm 6'0" and found this predicament interesting.

By the way, where's the PCV valve on an 02 Edge?

I always remove both front wheels to change plugs always worked best for me.

PCV should be around the valve cover passenger side back by the fire way

Somehow I've acquired about 1000 milk crates. You're welcome to have 999 of them.

I have yet to do anything too crazy under the hood, but simple step stools (improvised or not) have worked so far.

I've never had to really stretch for anything but to prop the hood up yet... but I think I've climbed on a tire....

I love workin' on our F550 at work... I just crawl up and sit up there... lol

It would help a lot if the grille was attached to the hood and lifted up out of the way when you opened it - like the F-150.

That would also have eliminated the annoying 04+ gap between hood/grille.

I have no problems reaching everything under my hood. But I'm 6'1" and my truck is lowered 5".

Step stool works best, still a b*t*h working on the front of the engine because of the light bar and lights.

True.

But somebody is in rough shape if they're spending more time with their hood open than closed.....
