Question Engine Vin?

If you purchased your Ranger used, how could you tell if it still has the original engine in it from the factory or has been replaced with one from the junk yard?

Or does the engine have the truck's vin number on it somewhere and where?

Yep, curious but mostly asking for a freind which I assisted in changing the serpertine belt tensioner on his 2002 Edge 3.0.

The correct OEM aftermarket part didn't fit for his year model and the auto parts clerk had to go back to 96 (I think it was) to find one that would fit.

Now he's wondering if his air conditioner and mount has been changed out or the entire engine.

It is indeed on the engine somewhere, but unfortunately I have no idea where.
