I'm kinda smiling like the butchers dog.The 97 4cyl 5sp I picked up on sunday for $500 just passed inspection.

I was wondering what type of gas miliage I can expect. Right now I drive a 94 cutlass ciera and it get about 21 mpg so I hoping I'll do better with the ranger and save some miles on the ciera.

so far I have about $800 invested with tax title and plate oh and 66.77 for the inspection.

I heard they can get as good as 30mpg! That would be great.

I should post some pics of this truck the body is clean as can be but it is the plainest jane you will ever see not even AC

I get 18-24 MPG with my 94 2.3 standard cab.

On the lower end it is driving to and from work, one stop at the gas station on the way there, through a 20 mph small ass town, then 17 miles @ 55mph.


On the higher end it was a 150 mile trip to illinois and a 150 mile trip back. Averaged 24-23 mpg respectively @ an average of 65-80 mph. 3.73 gears 5-speed 2.3.

The 4 cyl in those gen Rangers are a little underpowerd hence why their fuel econo isnt that great.

you'll probibly get the same as the cutless, but for the price of the truck it's hard to complain!

i would also look into the spark plug mod, it's free & easy and could net you a few extra HP & MPG.

95-97 were the most powerful years for the 2.3. From 94 to 95 they gained 12 hp, the 2.5 only had 7 more hp that the 95-97 2.3, lol. Doesn't sound like much, but from 95 to 96 the Vulcan in the Tauruses only gained 5 hp! But yeah, they are slugs, I know my 96 std cab. with no accessories and 5 speed is still slow, I can only image how bad the 94 & older ones are with a/c, p/s, auto trans & ext cab are!
