I have an 08 Ranger XLT extened cab. When I have to apply the brakes on the freeway in 5th gear I get a front end wobble that goes right through the steering wheel. Any Ideas. It almost feels like the rotors are worped. I had a 2000 and it did the same thing but I totaled
it before I could investgate.

Mine does the same thing now. Just a little left/right pulsing in the steering wheel.. Not much, but noticable. I've been wondering about it myself....

get a 4 wheel alignment done to it

I don't see it needing an alignment if it drives straight, wears tires evenly, and is otherwise perfect. My truck, like the OP's is only doing this when the brakes are applied. So it would only make sense that the rotors are probably warped or it's some kind of brake issue..

08 may still be under warranty....


Otherwise, it could be a few different problems. A: Tire imbalance or out of round tire. B: warped rotors. C: bad tie rod ends.


Of of which an alignment won't cure. BUT, bringing it in to get aligned can bring to light the tie rods being worn out.

Yes. My truck is a prime example of that. Big steering wheel wobble at approx 45-55mph, then it goes away. Everything else is spot on.

Huh.. My truck has no wobble at any speed. Only when I'm applying the brakes sometimes.. And it's not felt in the truck, but the steering wheel moves back and forth a hair while braking.. I suppose you can just barely feel it in the truck, but it's just that minor...

If it isnt your rotors, might have something to do with your ABS.

Mine shakes from about 65-70 sometimes....Doesnt bother me, I either speed up or slow down a lil and it goes away.

If it is happening when you apply your brakes it is warped rotors. The problem comes from these @#$!@#$!@# mechanics using 300 ft/lb impact guns instead of the 70 lbs or so torque wrenchs to put your lugs on with. Get the rotors a bit hot during a hard braking session and you have the recipie for warping.

i had a chevy town and country with same issues when i changed the pads the front end would wobble when applying brakes i had to change the rotors twice since most are made in china they get a slight warp to them cheaper to change then to cut
