Default steering trouble

im having trouble diagnosing my steering problem, when i turn my wheel typical more then a little it starts to get rigid like something is loose but everytime i check everything is fine. i replaced both my lower ball joints(which is what the shop told me to do) and it didnt help, all my other ball joints look good.

I have the same truck, like wannabe said check your tie rods. your upper bj's and control arm are fine? any other description you can give us. ie. does it happen when you turn in either direction?.

yeah it happens in either direction, and also somehow pressure builds up and it shoots power steering fluid out of the resevior. and as far as i can see yes both of my upper ball joints and control arms seem to be fine. out of curiosity tho, how do you know if your control arms are bad?

Did this just happen? Has it been going on for a while? Did you run low on power steering fluid? Did you bleed the ps system?

Maybe you have air in the ps. There are how to for bleeding it. I think most people suggest type F fluid. Was the steering will turned at while the truck was off?

ps fluid in these trucks are ATF and self bleed systems. when the steering cycles, it puts the air bubbles up into the reservoior.

Check all your ps lines for a dribble or squirt. Had a similar thing happen to me when I bent up my steering cooler which caused the lines to contact eachother and formed a hole in the hardline.

Right. Some people seem to have a hard time believing that, though.
