stupid ford
Definitely this ^

Only ranger's and F250+ do the work around here.

As for me its quite simple:

1. price

2. MPG

3. size

As much as I like the F-150, times are changing. Fuel and overall automotive maintenance prices keep climbing. I was driving a 2008 6.0L 3/4 ton Chevy Silverado before my Ranger.

It was time to downsize as I was starting to under-utilize myy 3/4 ton truck. My 2011, 2.3L Ranger will pull down 30 mpg on the highway empty and 21 mpg with 600 lbs in the bed plus tools. If I was driving an F-150 even with the EcoBoost I would likely be down to 14-15 with all my tools loaded up.

Fact is I miss the torque of a V8, but these days I just plan ahead and take it easy and my Ranger rewards me with great fuel economy.

Actually, I did buy my Ranger for the gas mileage. I had the dealership find a 2.3L with the 5 spd. I average 25.3 MPG with this set up and I've gotten 27.5 highway. That's with the AC on constantly. I think when it FINALLY cools off here in SE Texas the mileage should increase by about 1 or 2 MPG without my having to run the AC. I don't know of any full size gas trucks that get that good. If you know of one, let me know. I got the Ranger as my economy truck since I have a Ram 1500 4X4 Quad Cab for heavy hauling and pulling trailers. I've already hauled quite a few light loads in the Ranger though. The Ranger replaced an 06 Miata. The Miata was a blast to drive and got great mileage, averaging 32 MPG. However, I can't count the number of times I was out in the Miata and saw something I wanted to haul home and had to go back in the truck to get it.

One main reason the Ranger plant didn't close in 2008 as first planned was each time the cost of gas shot up, so did the sales of Rangers.
I suppose partly because this new F-150 wasn't ready yet is why Ford gave it reprieves.

Exactly , almost every small/ large (pest control, Gardening, Landscaping, Delivery,etc..) business around here uses Rangers or F250/350's to do any "Real work". F-150's are always either lifted and spotless, or stock and driven by trophy wives with nothing in the box. Matter fact in my area it's rare to see a Ranger with nothing in the bed, and Rangers are so common that it seems like every 10th vehicle is a Ranger.

I decided on a ranger for several reasons. The first was the price for an F150 was more than I could afford. The main reason was the fact that I don't need a fullsize truck, and the third reason was the ranger is tough and reliable. GM didn't really have anything that I liked and for sure I wasn't about to go and buy a taco or a frontier.

I chose the ranger cause it was more affordable and it suited my needs. I mostly drive by myself, I don't really like driving cars, and I got used to driving trucks and suv's cause at work that's what I mainly drive. Plus I love the reliability of the ranger, I have never had any big issues with the truck.

I needed something small for commuting to school but also something i could haul a deer in
Always been a Ford guy and the ranger was perfect for me... Turned down F150's for the same price and I wouldn't go back and change a thing if i could!

I chose a Ranger because I needed and wanted a truck as my first vehicle. The other competitors in Mini trucks just wern't there.. S10 is too low for my needs, Dakota is too big(gas), GMC wasn't even considered. The Ranger does everything IIIIIII need it to do. And, its the only pick up in the family(everyone else has cars..or trailer hitches(with no trailer!), that is another reason I wanted one. I don't need my Ranger to carry people, I need it do work for me. Gas is another +.

Seems most work places around here use Rangers. Better MPG than an F-150, and can handle quite the amount of chores. No, it can't tow 10,000lbs..but..well, I won't ever tow 10,000lbs..closest will be 3000..

I was originally looking at an 04 F150 supercrew, 4x4 with the 4.6 I believe. It had a few miles on it but needed alot of work. I don't mind a bigger vehicle because I'm used to it anyway. I ended up test driving my 2011 Ranger Sport 4X4 and was sold. At first, I was worried about the room inside since I knew they were much smaller then a crewcab f150, but to date, the ranger has done everything I've thrown at it, gets a decent 21 mpg usually, and I can use it as a daily driver for commuting back and forth to work 25 minutes from where I live. The only way to have the Ranger was with a 5 speed for me, and its rugged enough for what I use it for. Looking back on it now, the Ranger has been all the truck I needed to begin with. I haven't required the use of a truck much bigger or more powerful than my Ranger. It pulled the 12' u-haul trailer full to the brim when I moved, worked great for that although I could definitely feel the extra weight, but nothing it couldn't handle

I use my Ranger for Lawn business. Chose Ranger over F150 for price first. then size, cause my friend has a full size Sierra and it is a pain getting in and out of places. Just me and wife no kids so I don't need to have a ton of room, plus we are both under 5' 6". I had a 2006 Reg cab 3.o, traded in for my 2011 Sport 4x4 4.0 and love it. So much better than 3.0. My only complaint over rangers is the outdated un changed interiors. I wish there were more options for the interior and nicer parts. But for the price it is great and rugged. I looked at tacoma, frontier, dakota and didn't think the inside was nice enough for the extra price over the value of ranger.

I like this reason. IMO Rangers are still very nice and great trucks. I always wanted one and had a couple but not 4x4 or the 4.0, glad I finally could afford the top of the line ranger.
