I'm with Matt... most states have 35% tint laws on driver/pass windows and what you do beyond that is (like speeding) and conscious choice... sorry man but face the music... I've have 15% for almost a year now and so far no problems **knock on wood**.... luckily the cops here don't care unless you drive a sports car...

Ha. Was driving my grandpa's brand new ranger he bought when he was down in AZ. It has factory tint, but the Damn cop didn't believe me until I showed him the title.

In my experience, most shops that do tints make it explicitly clear when the tint is or remotely might be illegal, both verbally and in writing.

and in michigan, tint law is your only allowed to have tint on the top 4 inches of the front window. from the factory, theres no tint at all on the fronts just like your windshield. ive got 20% on my fronts and rear half door windows. havent gotten pulled over yet lol

I forget what my windows are...
35 or 40% maybe.
Whatever it is, I think it's the happy medium. They're relatively dark, but not too dark to stand out. Sure, it would "look cool" if they were darker, but that would increase the odds that I'd get stopped for it, and tint really cuts your night visibility.
While most people can get away with it and never get any tickets, it's still taking a chance. The second you have it installed, your forfeit your right to complain if a cop decides to enforce it.
Seems like everyone wants to blame the "a-hole cop" if they get a ticket, but the law is the law.

For what it's worth, anything lower than 15% is just asking for trouble on ANY window.

Good shops will give you a certificate that says that the tint meets local requirements for you to keep in your glovebox to prove it in case you do get pulled over.
The same good shops will make you sign a disclaimer/release form and you recieve a copy of it as well, stating you are aware the tint is illegal and will not hold the shop liable for any wrong doing.

When you mod
Sorry to hear of the ticket Yea it sucks! How ever that's the cost of when you do mods. You must know the laws! You have to play by the rules and there is NO crying when you get spanked! Havening been busted for my lil truck going boom boom boom. Actually the cop ( gods i am ganna date my self) When radar guns first came out. I got busted for 99 miles per hour in heavy traffic. I looked at the officer like he was nuts HE WROTE ME THE TICKET! and TOOK ME TO JAIL! got to see the judge even. Explained to the judge there was NO way on a Friday night Cruiseing could i have been doing 99 mph. On a street that was going like 15 tops! It was my subs in my old truck making the radar gun quiver BTW the cop arrested 6 that night for the same thing! I got off cause they then agreed this could not have been the case the gun was defective. Next week They passed a 20' law they can hear your vehicle 20' away and you get a noise violation.

In CA any front tint that isn't clear is illegal. I have a medium tint that matches the stock privacy glass so its not too dark. Of course there are morons that roll around with double limo. I never understood that. You don't want people to see you then don't go outside. You are fine if people see you but you don't want to see them then close your eyes while you drive. Same thing. LOL.

I would have doubled the fine and locked you up for a week for even suggesting something so insane to get out of a ticket.
