Default cruise control gone wild

have 92 ranger stx that took off wide open when put into reverse,, wife was driving never touched gas pedal, has done this twice now has 108,000 miles on it everything else is great, anyone else ever heard of this? nobody including dealers have any idea, i think it has to be cruise, nothing else could open throttle,

pull out the cruise control throttle cable and see if that resolves the problem

there is no reason for cable to even move cruise should not be activated in reverse or under 40 mph switch is not on, no warning when it does it, she backed into a concree support, bent tie rod and bent and tore right arm, i am going to disconect cable when back on the road,

if there is a short in the cruise control module then its possible for the cable to move...ford had a big problem with this back in the early 90s

I haven't heard of FORD's jumping, but I have heard of early 2000's catching fire due to a cruise control switch going bad. I had an 02' that was recalled due to this as were Explorer's and F 150's, so there may be something else going on. I had an old Escort where the throttle cable got stuck causing the vehicle to sometimes take off (and have trouble stopping).

back in the late 80s-early 90s ford had a huge issue with this...there is actually a dateline report about it on youtube
