no, working warranty only pays like 710ths the hours and you have to prove your work to ford to get paid. no proof, no pay, but you still did it.

Schedule wise... this is a 1-2 day job at minimum and there are no other dealerships that are convenient for both me and Drew.... I don't want to spend all day sitting there waiting for them to do it so I want a shop that we can easily drop it off and pick it up around our work schedules.

Warranty work gets paid a minimum labor rate... in my industry it was about 2/3 of a normal labor rate, and you only get cost on the part not retail value. In addition to that you can sometimes lose the extras like shop supplies, shipping, and any other small expense you would normally pass on as well as having to wait weeks-months to actually get paid for the job. IMO you decided to be a Ford service center not Joe's Auto Shop so you could have the Ford name and clientele... with that comes warranty & I for one am loyal to the company that treats me right.

Marie --

sorry to hear you're having trouble.

there's a big Ford dealership (literally!!) around the corner from my house... back when the cruise control recall was sent out, I stopped by there. [for those unaware, the recall/warranty fix was to install a short, fused wiring harness -- a 15 second job]. this dealership wanted me to make an -appointment- the following week, saying that they couldn't just perform the recall fix, but were also required to do a (non-warranty) 60,000 mile check-up/tune-up and that it'd be around $450 or so.

I called the Ford dealership in the little hamlet about 20 miles north of here... they said they'd be happy to do it (for free!), and the service tech said he'd hang out and wait for me if it took me more than a half hour to get there (it was 4:30 on a Friday when I called). Needless to say, that dealership is the one I've gone to ever since! They've always treated me right and kept my truck in A-1 condition.

...of course, that dealership is probably a little bit out of your way. I hope you can find a capable, reputable dealership near you.

Some dealership service departments suck big time and others are great. The one I bought my truck at sucks but the one in my neck of the woods seems ok.

It does seem like the bigger the dealership and the focus of the dealership makes a difference too. Northland, where I bought my truck gets primarily commercial business and they cater to them, not us lowly regular retail flunkies.

Anyway, I would try another dealer. Maybe you'll get lucky and find one with a great service department that will make the inconvenient trip worth it.

Marie, your lift and big tires are the cause of your issues.

Not really, but watch them pull that trick.

Your ordeal reminds me of my truck. When it warms up, the idle drops down to 500 and surges up and down at stops. When I go to accelerate, it seems to drop into neutral, and then jump back into drive. It is clearly fucked up. However, the Onboard Diagnostic System sees absolutely nothing wrong with a truck dropping into neutral and a surging idle, so it has not thrown a MIL or the O/D Off light. What makes it worse, is every single time I try to demonstrate the problem, it refuses to happen. I have only gotten two people to see what the truck does, and I had to drive around for over half an hour before it started acting up.

What I'm really pissed the most about is they told us what we needed to do in order for them to feel comfortable doing the repair... we did that and they said "leave it and we will fix it" and then 3 days later said they had no intentions of fixing it after all....

I called Ford's customer service line and they told me they cannot tell the dealership to do the repair, even if it is warranty. They said I could either talk to the service manager and try to get them to change their mind or go to a different dealership and have them do the work. Needless to say I filed a complaint while on the phone about the dealership.

I also spoke to a friend of mine who works at Ford and he thought the slave SHOULD still be covered under my 60,000 mile warranty. So I called the another dealership (about an hour away) and explained the situation. I gave him my VIN and asked him to check warranty status before I went through the work of trying to get the truck to them and all that junk. He called me back and said the slave is NOT covered under the powertrain warranty (not what I was told by the dealership I bought the truck from). I've kinda thrown in the towel 'cause there's really nothing more I can do. I'll just wait for it to get worse and then find a shop to fix it.

That really sucks, I was hoping there would be a better resolution to this. I guess your truck is still driveable to a certain extant? What did Ford USA say when you formally filed a complain towards the 1st dealership? Did they say they were going to look into it?

She apologized and everything and they've sent me a few surveys but I doubt it's gonna do me any good

Call Ford themselves or write an email to them. My mother had a similar issue with a jeep cherokee and the dealership said it wasnt a warranty part and would cost her an arm and a leg. She wrote to Chrysler, the next day they called her and the dealership. They made the dealership reimburse every dime to her plus fix the part. Dont give up on it, keep on them.

Get Edgeman to open a can whup ass. I have heard that ford's warranty practice sucks balls, but this is a joke. I am glad I didnt pay extra for longer warranty that will go dishonored.

Send a copy of this thread to FORD explaining to them that each and every person here is one of their customers. If that is what they want to do to you, then they are also doing it to us. They perhaps may be willing to mistreat one of us, but I don't think they want to do it in front of a whole lot of us.
