Just buy the truck if they want 300 bucks for it and it looks that good, Get it plus theres a rebuilt motor which means its probably something little like a battery or a starter.

Ok guys heres the run down, it is a 1998 Ford Ranger Super Cab, it is
4x4 3.0 V6 straight drive. When i was there I put the key in and nothing but they claim the motor(rebuilt) and transmission is fine. On monday my dad is having them put a new battery in it and see if that is the only problem. Anyways they are going to sell it to me for 1500 dollars and it only has 40,000 miles on it. Should I do it?

Default .... :(

Turns out they guy who previously owned it replaced the 3.0 with a 4.0 and never finished it. The mechanic who took a look at it today didn't have much time but what he could tell was that he never got it running with the new engine and no way to tell why. He can tell that all the wiring has basically been really butchered. I am kinda scared of it but really love the truck. I am so lost and have no clue what to do. My mind says don't do it but my heart really wants the truck.....

I'd pass on it.

Rangers are a dime a dozen. You'll find another one.

I would get it and throw a 3.0 in it that will bolt up. Shit, if you can get it for 200-300 then resell or part it out for more money.

Just my personal opinion, but I've learned not to let myself fall in love with a vehicle until after I decide to buy it, and always be ready to walk away from any deal. Love can cloud judgment, and make you overpay or buy something you shouldn't.

Not saying that's what you'd be doing if you bought this truck, just speaking generally.

Can anybody tell me what all would have to be replaced when you switched out a 3.0 engine for a 4.0. Such as the transmission and the cpu and stuff. I am not very educated on ins and outs of cars but a buddy I was talking to wasn't sure if it could handle the bigger engine... Thanks again

the frame and everything will hold the bigger engine, you will need the engine, transmission, ecu all heating/cooling components.. basically everything out of a 4.0 truck. it would be best to find a rear ended 4.0 and use it as a donor vehicle.. sell what you dont need from both trucks and recoup your money.. thats what i would do
