Default Wheel weight problem

High guys, I hope this is the right area for this. Anyway, I recently purchased a 2000 XLT Super Cab 4X4 with the off road package. The problem I have is with the 16in fancy wheels that came on it. I dont know if it is the wheel weights causing the problem, but I have several spots right were the wheel weights are mounted that have what I assume is a corrosion problem, the corrosion sticks up almost 1/8th in. could this be from the clear coat being chipped off when the weights were installed or what. What would be the best way to clean those areas and should the cleaned areas be clear coated again ? I hope I explained the problem good enough, I could always take a picture of the problem to show.

Tack on weights kill any wheels, you would probably have to refinish them, then go with sticky weights after that. The tack on weights rip clear coat off and let the rims peel and corrode so sand it, and refinish it or just get new rims and do the sticky weights!!
