Trailer Towing With A 3.oL
I have a 2007 Ranger with the 3.0l engine and Auto Trans.2 inch receiver hitch,I have been towing a 2000 Lbs.trailer with no problem. The truck is rates to tow 2460 Lbs.,according to the ford manual.I want to get a travel trailer that is 16 feet long and the weight is 2000 Lbs. plus 400 Lbs. in camping gear etc. plus myself and my wife with additional weight of 350 Lbs. so the total weight is 2750 Lbs. plus wind drag on the 8 foot high tralier.,so I am 290 Lbs. over weight. The 2000 Lbs. trailer I pull now is a tent trailer with little wind drag and I cruse at 70 M.P.H all day long and still get 22MPG.,But with the extra weight and wind drag, the 3.0L does not have much power. Will I have a problem? How can I get a little more HP. and Tourch?Do I need a bigger Transmission cooler? My truck has only 20,000 miles on it,I wish I had purchased the 4.0L.I hate to sell the truck,I love it.I pulled my friends 18 foot travel trailer, weight was 2800 Lbs.plus 400 Lbs. in driver and passenger,no problem going up a hill or starting from a dead stop, but the truck had a hard time after 50 MPH.By the way,I have electric brakes.Any and all discussion would be helpfull.
