Default Ford Ranger Idle Problem?

I have a 2001 Ford Ranger V-6 4wd and have a very slow idle. When in parked or just idleing at a red light, the rpm's will drop down to like 200-300 and the truck will rock. If I keep a foot on the gas and brake at the same time it is fine. And of course, the idle speed is computer controlled so I can't fix it this way. Some friends told me to check the "idle air control valve" or "oxygen sensors." The engine light code says that the engine is running lean. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you all for your time in answering this question. Happy holidays to all!

Change the gas filter and check all the vac hoses , check the air filter , make sure you check , clean the battery , starter , alternator engine block ground posts and also be sure that you don't have a loose belt.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way be sure you check and clean all the plug in connections and connectors under the hood for the sensors etc and use a small wire brush or fine sandpaper or a file.
