Default 2010 Ford Ranger Sport

Good Evening,

I'm seeking help with an issue that is starting to become common with my Ford Ranger. I just recently purchased a Used 2010 Ford Ranger from the dealership at the beginning of July and everything was going great with my new purchase, until one evening I was leaving from work. My Ford Ranger just completely shut off while I was on the highway. There were no warning signs at all beforehand, after I was able to finally stop, it started with no issue. I took my truck to the dealership and they were not able to find any issues with it. So I went home and my truck ran perfectly for about two weeks and the same issue occurred once again on my way to work. As I stated beforehand, once the truck actually stops it will start with no issue. So to get to the point I had my truck since the beginning of July and this issue is starting to occur once a week. I do not want to take it to the dealership and seem like I'm crazy!!!!!!!!!! CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like the dealership needs to take it for a test drive.

Does it sputter when it shuts off or just shuts off like the key was turned off?

Ignition switch problem? Do you have a big, heavy key chain?

The only time I've ever heard of something like this was an issue with the ignition switch. Honda had a recall on their 1997 - 1999 CR-Vs for that exact issue. It might be worth looking into.

I have to agree with the above comment. It sounds like the previous owner had that issue and dumped it because of it.

Where you trying to pass someone? Not trying to be funny but the top speed on these things is 86 mph and the motor cuts out when you hit that speed.

Could be fuel pump related possibly something blocking the line. I've heard of the very tiny piece of tin foil paper (from a fuel additive) getting stuck in the line and causing the vehicle to shut off for apparently no reason. So, check that out.

I had the opposite problem in a 92 chev corrsica once shut off the thing died turns out it was a neutral safety switch from the shifter to the transmission had to replace that a few times. Only trouble I had with a vehicle dieing while running was a 1989 topaz and it was an egr valve that was giving me problems. It could be a computer problem thats all i can think of

Just make sure when you take it to the dealer they document the problem on the work order. That way if it happens again after the warranty is up, they will still cover it.
