Truck is a 2011 I bought new in Feb this year, it has 8500 miles on it, runs perfectly fine as far as I can tell. Was using the truck all day, nothing unusual went to leave a clients house and the orange “engine” light came on and stayed on till I got to my next stop. Just for poops & giggles I cranked the motor over again to see if it would go out and no it just stayed on.
On my older cars in the past when I got a CEL I would disconnect the battery for 10 min then re-start, did that and it worked light is gone, have probably driven 40-60 miles since and the light is still off but who knows.

Do these newer Rangers show a code anywhere? My old ’05 Dodge Cummins diesel would show you the codes if you cycled the ignition three times in a row without starting the truck. My wifes old car would do it if you held the trip reset for a few seconds while turning the key to ignition. Do Fords have a similar trick or do I need to take this in to the dealer? I know it’s under warranty but my wife and I are dealing with a major family medical dilemma right now with our 2 year old son so I have no time for dealer trips but at the same time don't want my truck to break down.

I checked my gas cap and sure enough it was tight, so I’m clueless. I just feel a 2011 shouldn’t be throwing codes with so little mileage.

itll go away!! my 2010 chek engine light came on and then went away right before driving it to service department. i started thinking mine probably came on cuse i have a habit of filling up with gas with engine running.

Take it to your dealer even with the light gone it was stored in your computer's memory...they should be able to pull it to see what it was...as long as you didn't take your battery cables off

EDIT: just reread what you said and you won't be able to see unless that light comes back

If it comes back on, take it to the dealer and have them look at it. Use that warranty, especially if you bought the extended warranty. Get your money out of it.
