Royal purple synthetic oil
Was advised recently that "Royal Purple synthetic oil" could stay in my truck for a full year without changing it, told just to check the level occassionally. What do you think. I don't put to many miles on in a year, less than 10k maybe. Just asking! Gloria

Some of the higher end oils like Royal Purple and Amsoil are rated at 10-15,000 mile life spans. I personally wouldn't do it. That is just too long for oil to be in an engine for me. The most I go is 7500 miles with Amsoil.

I would say 7500 tops. Do you do 10K miles a year city or is it all highway or mixed?

I do both types of driving, highway and city. It's not the cost, its the getting it done in a timely manner. I figure if I could do the change at the same time I get my inspection done, tires rotated...or some such routine. I would remember to do it. I know many single women who are trying to manage their car care by themselves, not just myself, but friends even my daughter (27) and her friends. I want to give them good advice also. Thank you, Gloria

The oil may be good for that long....but your filter certainly won't last that long...
I do 5,000 mile intervals using Royal purple and a K&N oil filter. I should start extending that as the fluid coming out still looks brand spankin' new.

An old guy at work volunteered this info to me about the oil but didn't say anything about the filter not lasting as well. He just said he changed his oil once a year and would check it to see how it looked or add some. Gloria

Have any of you noticed any MPG improvements by just switching to Royal Purple or the likes?

I saw no gain when I switched from normal Quaker State to the Synthetic Horsepower blend from Quaker State. Didnt really notice anything in the last 2 oil changes with it. Thinking of switching to Royal Purple.

The improvements are very minimal....but when synthetic is used in all moving assemblys(axles, trans, tcase, engine), the gas mileage improvements are greater, probably a mile per gallon or two if you drive in the same fashion. But, again, minimal. You won't get no 5mpg from changing fluids. In the winter time, I run a 0w30. Warm oil is happy oil. The warmer it gets faster, the better economically the engine will run.

use pennzoil platinum synthetic oil and a napa oil filter. pennzoil is alot better for ford engines and is the most tested oil out there and the napa gold oil filters have been tested to be the best filter. it filters better than any other filter. the royal purple is good for gear oil but they don't test there oil very well. they test it on one test and it's not even the best test to test it on.

i dont know witch is best. butt i do know ford dont like you going over the recommended milage synthetic or not. dont ask me how thay would know but i am not going to give in and see if it would last. when an oil and filter is so little and time is minimal to change. now if you dont have the time/money you have to do what you have to but it just seems to be a cheep insurance for my piece of mind. and thats how i feel on that

I use Motor Craft full synthetic and a Motor Craft filter its less than 20 bucks for both of them at Wal Mart. Its a pretty good price, Plus ford makes it. I change mine every 3000 miles though

I have used amsoil for about 20 years now, i have always driven 80 % highway and 20% city and run the oil for 25,000 - 30,000 miles and have never had engine problem related to oil. I do change the oil filter about ever 5000 miles and top of oil. I use nothing else including 2 cycle amsoil. most every vehicle I own had over 100,000 miles when I purchased and now have close to 200,000. and still run great with no engine issues.

I used Royal Purple everything Tranny, rearend, oil, when i had my Mustang. I also run Royal Purple when I can in my Mazdaspeed 6. The Ranger has had Mobile 1 since day one Sept 96, and most oil changes are around 7500 to 8000 miles but i know a few have went to 10,000 miles.
