Want to Swap from a 2.5 to a 3.0 need advice
I have had my ranger since it was new back in 2000. It's a 2.5L and I have been debating on whether I should try to upgrade it to a 3.0L V6.
Has any one done this before that could give me some advice?
Or if swaping out the engine for a v6 is not practical, what modifications to the engine can I make to get better performance out of it?

If you are set on swapping the engine please bypass the 3.0 for at least a 4.0. Or find a 5.0 out of an explorer!

x2. If your looking for performance and plan on swapping motors then you might as well get a 5.0

going to a 3.0 is a downgrade.

Your 2.5 is probably faster than the 3.0.
Jus' sayin'.

Please, DO NOT put in a 3.0! there is a reason why they are called "3.Slow"

X5
Don't. Spend a little more and go for a 4.0/5.0. If I knew then, what I know now, I would have gone with the 4.0. If you are looking for horsepower/torque, going up to the 3.0 is not even close to worth the trouble.

Re: Want to Swap from a 2.5 to a 3.0 need advice
Lol ok might as well do the 5.0 seeing as the crowd strongly opposes the 3.0
Now the next information I am sure comes next is,,: What is involved in a complete engine swap?

My best advice is to find yourself an Explorer for parts. Makes things 6 times easier.

Re: Want to Swap from a 2.5 to a 3.0 need advice
The 3.0 is only good for reliability and T-buckets because they don't weigh anything basically. If you're going to do a swap might as well do a 5.0 or stroke it to a 347 for a little bit more torque and power. Don't let people mislead you on the mpgs of a V8 engine either. The 5.0 out of an Explorer will be pushing alot less weight than it normally would be if it were staying in the Explorer. And to let you know what kind of mpgs you'd expect with the 5.0, I rode in a ranger that use to have a 4.0. The cat swapped it out for a carbed 5.0. He got the same mpgs as he did with his F.I. 4.0 as long as he didn't stand on the gas pedal. Anytime you do an engine swap from V4 or V6 to a V8 which has alot more torque and power, you're changing the power to weight ratio for the better.
