Yeah, you can, but a lot of guys getting really good distance are running some equipment that doesn't really fall in the "cheap" category.

That's what I would do, but I can understand trying to save a couple of benjamins. It also depends on what you plan on using it for. A firestik and a cheap CB would be enough to probably talk to people 20 miles away, I would imagine (depending on if the CB is tunable or not). If you want greater distance, you might as well get a really nice tunable CB, amp, whip, etc.

If I could get 20 miles I'd be happy. Just fire sticks are so ugly to me.

haha, yeah its not a problem. It works, But Its also discontinued so I would plan on looking at something new.

full whip radio shack they dont put them out you have to askthey keep them in the back drill a hole in your bumper mount run coax your finished no SWR's to worry about oh and a tennis ball with two holes keeps it from scaching your truck

I've got a little Cobra 19 thats been modded and a Wilson 1000 antenna, and that gets out really well.
